Job Description

General Summary: Tigershark Aquatics is seeking a qualified Swim Club Coach and USA Swim Coach whom would be available Part-time to work up to 3 hours per week day for practices and attend all scheduled meets. Head coach would lead our year around USA swimming program and to include Seasonal Club. We currently have approximately 60 swimmers who swim one or more of the 3 sessions we offer yearly. They range in age from 5-18 in conjunction with both programs. The ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable and able to communicate with assistant coaches, parents.

The Head Coach to oversee all aspects of our competitive swim program, with direct coaching responsibilities. The overall objective of the position is to continue to guide and grow a USA & Club Swimming Program that produces the highest attainable levels of competitive excellence in individual and team performance, while fostering a positive environment that fulfills ATAC goals and vision. It is expected that the head coach will foster positive relationships, mentor as appropriate, and communicate well with their coaching staff to assist in building a varsity program, swim athletes of all ages, swim team parents, and the Board of Directors.

Head Coach Roles and Responsibilities of USA Swim:
 Responsible for all levels of swimming in the USA program.
 Direct Coaching duties for swimmers
 Work with the Board to ensure self-sustaining and ever growing non-competitive and age group base within the organization
 Design and oversee training plans for all training groups
 Oversee seasonal progression of athletes, set goals with swimmers, monitor phases of development with individual swimmers
 Prompt attendance at all scheduled workouts and swim meets to include weekends
 Set training schedules, practice groups, and athlete placement within groups
 Plan each season's meet schedule consistent with the needs of the team, individual training groups, and athletes and their families.
 Assign necessary staff for all scheduled swim meets and practices.
o Head Coach assigns the schedule for assistant Coaches
o In case of swim meet conflict the Head Coach attends highest competition level
 Decides all individual and relay events for athletes at swim meets; or review those selected by assistant Coaching staff.
 Set and report USA Swim Team performance highlights to the Board.
 Facilitate individual age appropriate goal setting processes with all swimmers.
 Has authority to dismiss any swimmer (at least temporarily)
 Establishes an environment that fosters positive team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, and responsibility
 Support and facilitate progress toward USA Swimming Club Recognition and Club Excellence Goals

 Maintain Team Records
 Attend Daily Practice Monday-Friday
 Attend all ATAC Meets
 Attend USA-S Meets as discussed with Aquatic Board.
 Supervise Swimmers in pool area at all times.
 Give instruction and feedback on training and technique
 Communicate with parents and swimmers; meet information, results, feedback.
 Greet, acknowledge and interact with members at all times.
 Create an educational, safe and inviting experience for all participants.
 Initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with all participants.
 Provide a safe, clean and organized pool area.
 Present and participate in all team sponsored events including Annual Golf Outing and End of Season Athlete Award Dinner Banquet.
 Attend Team Board of Directors Meetings and provide input.
In Charge of:
 In service training to assistant staff.
 Weekly meetings with assistant coaches.
 Meet Entries.
 Staff mentoring and development (including professional development).
 Team organizing, planning & development.
 Vacation upon request to Club President.

 Must have (or obtain prior to being on deck) certification in Adult & Pediatric/ Child CPR and AED.
 Passionate about swimming and working with kids.
 Knowledge of competitive USA swimming and all swimming strokes (Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle)
 Must possess/be able to demonstrate:
o Professionalism.
o Leadership skills.
o Decision making ability (in interest of athletes & organization).
o Timely and professional communication (written & verbal) with coaches, parents, swimmers, and board members.
o Willing to follow directives from board.
 Ability to work with and maintain professional relationships with Allegan Public School staff and high school varsity coaches.
 Must have working knowledge of Meet Manager Software.
 Responsible management of team funds.
 Current USA Swimming Coach in good standing preferred, Level 1.
 Ability to work, train, and instruct one or multiple practice groups Monday-Friday, times will vary. Must be able to work weekends for swim meets that often require travel with federal mileage & lodging reimbursement.

Compensation: Salary, commensurate with experience. All travel expenses covered.
Physical Requirements: Required to travel to “away” meets, Lifeguard Certification, Background check. Ability to stand for long periods of time on deck. Swimming and/or coaching experience preferred. USA Swim Coach Level 1.
