Job Description The Hickam Hurricanes are looking to hire a reasonably experienced coach to join our team on deck! We will be undergoing a few changes in our staffing in the coming months and would like to get ahead of the learning curve. About the team: The Hickam Hurricanes are a non-profit military only USA swimming club. We are located on Hickam Air Force Base, right next to Pearl Harbor (if you are non military that is not a problem, as base access can be granted via sponsorship). Due to being located on a military instillation, our membership is limited to military only families which usually leaves our active member count to over 100 swimmers, depending on the time of the year. About the position: One of our coaches is moving away in the next few months so her position would be passed along to the best qualified candidate. We would prefer to hire sooner than later, so that said candidate has time to get acquainted with the groups and have an easy transition once this coach departs. The typical weekly schedule is: 3:00pm - 6:30pm Monday to Friday 7:00am - 10:00am Saturday As needed for swim meets Responsibilities: You will be directly in charge of both the Mini 1 and Mini 2 age groups, acting as a first line of contact for parents should they have questions and report to the Head Coach. Depending on current staff, you will be required to coach at least the Mini 1 group each day, but possibility of coaching Mini 2 as well on certain days. Once finished with those groups, you will switch over to either the Gold or Elite groups assisting one of the coaches in charge of those groups. This way you will get to know the majority of the team as well as get to coach all levels on the team. Experience requested: Since you will be covering a large variety of skill levels we are asking: At least 1-2 years coaching experience, especially with 10&Under age groups Experience with a USA swimming club Certifications/Registration as a USA swimming coach (if expired, renewal must be completed before first day on deck) Willingness to be flexible on a daily basis with what groups you will be in charge of Prior experience as a swimmer is not required, but it helps Salary: All coaching staff are on an hourly based salary. This position will be in the $13-$15/hr range depending on experience. Important: Please do not apply to this job if you do not already live on the island of O'ahu. Responsibilities: Responsible for Senior & Senior Elite Athletes Works with head coach to set workout schedules Works with head coach to set workout groups and criteria for advancement has prompt attendance on all scheduled workouts & meet days. May not be needed for all meets depending on situation. Head Coach will decide which meets coach attends. May need to help with other groups at swim meets. designs and oversees season training plans for Senior and Senior Elite Athletes with assistance from head coach as needed designs and oversees daily workout plans for Senior and Senior Elite Athletes attends open water practice with senior and senior elite athletes when necessary. Complies to all rules and regulation set forth by Safe Sport & USA Swimming sets Senior and Senior Elite performance goals facilitates individual goal setting process with all swimmers in their respective group facilitates a mental training program with all swimmers in their respective group maintains attendance lists via Ondeck app Remains in compliance with all county rules and regulations and takes all concerns to head coach who will directly work with county aquatics division establish an environment that fosters positive team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, responsibility Works with Head Coach to determine the Senior and Senior Elite Athletes Meet schedule selects individual's meet events makes relay assignments for respective group with assistance from Head Coach depending on meet. supervises meet warm-ups to prepare swimmers, to ensure safety and to comply with USA Swimming warm-up procedures attends all pertinent meetings at meets Program Growth With Head Coach Approval has the authority to implement and run clinics Team Travel comply with USA Swimming coaching code of conduct and rules regarding team travel. responsible for managing the travel budget (if traveling without head coach) conducting meetings before and during travel (if traveling without head coach) Long Range Planning is involved with all long range planning aspects Professional Association certified member of ASCA Other Duties Head Coach and Club Owner may assign other responsibilities and duties so long as they fall within the written objectives of the club Compensation: TBD on Experience *Serious inquiries only* *Housing not provided* (this is a question we are asked often)
