MACRD Aquatic Center
The Aquatics Manager leads and manages the aquatics team of lifeguards and instructors, the operations of a large indoor aquatics center with multiple pools, one whirlpools, water slides and water park play structures, and a full calendar of aquatics programming, including lessons, teams, and special events. The Manager hires, schedules and trains all aquatics staff, develops an annual budget and strategic plan, and helps develop the aquatics program calendar. This position is provided with general supervision by the Executive Director of the MACRD.
Primary Job Responsibilities and Duties
Hires, trains, supervise and evaluate the Head Lifeguard, Head Lifeguard and pool staff.
Formulates weekly work week schedules and rotation schedules for all aquatic employees (i.e. lifeguards, swim instructors, pool staff in coordination with aquatics programs and swim team).
Initiates and works with the MACRD to assure planned events and activities are publicized and implemented on a timely basis and in an effective fashion. Recommends and initiates activities to increase member satisfaction.
Manages the Facility Manager to ensure proper chemical balance in pools and maintains mechanical equipment in coordination with the club’s maintenance department.
Ensures a high quality of standards in the pool locker areas.
Ensures proper maintenance of pool decks and locker rooms, as well as outlying areas. Notifies the facility manager regarding watering and weeding of planted areas and their general upkeep.
Works directly with non-profit groups offering specific services to the MACRD. Examples of such partnerships are the swim team. May function as the swim team and or water polo team coach.
Orders swimsuits, and other pool accessories, orders staff uniforms and assures staff adhere to appropriate attire.
Provides necessary orientation and training for pool staff. Assures staff are not using cellphones when on duty. Enforces club rules of safety and conduct and is the first line of management resolution of MACRD member problems or issues.
Maintains and keeps all necessary records concerning pool attendance, pool chemicals, accident reports, lifeguard and instructor schedules, time cards, etc. Routinely notifies MACRD Executive Director of any accidents, problems or issues on a timely basis.
Develops and implements a pool safety program. Recommends changes to the pool and pool house rules.
Ensures that there is a Master Swim program provided. This position can lead or delegate to the Swim Coach.
Must be present on pool deck for special club activities and events to supervise staff to ensure a successful and safe outcome and/or major holidays.
Submit payroll increases for approval by the MACRD Executive Director before revealing to staff member and payroll accountant.
Hires and manages Aquatics fitness and other independent teachers. Manages the pool schedule with all activities. Creates on line schedule for all events and staffing schedules.
Other duties as assigned.
Responsible for managing pool related labor costs. (Lifeguards, reception)
Ensure all sales are accounted for in a daily sales system via Active and reconciliation with monthly financial statements.
Actively seeks revenue generating events that can be booked into the facility. (Tournaments, swim meets, one-off events)
Design new programming for aquatics.
Works with the accounting department to ensure all record keeping procedures are consistently followed.
Prepares initial pool operating budget, with support from the Executive Director and financial team. Once approved by the Board, is responsible for the management of those resources and generating related earned revenues.
Plans and directs special events such as theme holiday programs, sponsor events, community events and collaborative events with other organizations.
Arranges a program for private and group swim lessons.
Works directly with Marketing to design promotional programs to help drive sales.
Enters into agreements with individuals or organizations that are interested in facility rentals or special promotional events or rentals.
Responds to customer requests, information cards or on line comments regarding pool operations and activities Ability and Skills understand, interpret, explain, and administer district policies and procedures; exercise sound, expert independent judgment within policy guidelines; exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues and situations; ability to make tough decisions; facilitate a continuous community discussion about the benefits and goals of community recreation; listen to and trust the opinions of subordinate staff; possess a forward thinking mentality where the consequences of decisions are considered when evaluating alternatives; create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and the general public. Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

USA Swimming Certification Salary Range: $38,000-50,000Employer/Employee Retirement fund (Percentage match from employer after vesting)
