Job Description About Manhattan Youth Manhattan Youth Recreation and Resources, Inc. provides the highest quality childcare and After-School programs plus academic, recreational and cultural activities for children, families and individuals who live or work in Manhattan, regardless of income. Our programs stimulate, challenge and strengthen children, teens, adults, seniors and families. Our services respond to the needs of our community. Our primary activities remain camp, after school programs and our Community Center. We also engage in a number of civic issues that impact community life in Manhattan. Position Summary The After-School Swim School Supervisor works as part of a leadership team to complete all duties related to the After-School Swim programs at the Downtown Community Center and ensure continued success and growth of the program. The supervisor will develop, manage, and lead a team to ensure a safe, clean, and appealing aquatics facility. Assist the Aquatics Director in management and administration of the After-School Swim Program including: o Hire, train, and supervise After-School aquatics staff. Ensure staff have proper certifications, including lifeguard and CPR, and attend initial orientations and training. o Coach, counsel, and review all aquatics staff as appropriate. Conduct regular check-in meetings with individual staff. o Oversee day-to-day supervision of aquatics staff and aquatics programming. o Observe lessons and provide a feedback loop for staff which encourages growth and open communication. o Monitor attendance, and speak with parents and caregivers about aquatics programs. o Write daily notes to Aquatics Director and other supervisors to report on day’s events and program notes. o Ensure staffing of all programs and events. o Communicate with Aquatics Director and Registrar regarding swimmer registration, class placements, and parent/caregiver comments and concerns. o Assisting with staff scheduling and record-keeping of staff attendance and requests. o Coordinate with other leadership on seasonal events, information nights, handouts and brochures, and scheduling of meets and other events. o Maintain an active presence to parents and members through meet-and-greets and parent communication. o Models relationship-building skills in all interactions while promoting and communicating Manhattan Youth values. o Plan and lead orientation and staff development sessions with other leadership staff. o Assess current programs and create/implement new events, activities, policies and procedures where gaps are present. o Plan and lead orientations and staff development sessions with other leadership staff. This position requires: o On-deck supervising for a minimum of 15 scheduled hours per week. o Other hours (coaching, teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding) to be determined based on department needs. o Additional hours during high-volume weeks including registration periods and swimmer evaluation periods. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor’s Degree or 2-4 years related program experience required. 2-4 years’ experience supervising staff preferred. Candidates must have exemplary organization and communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service background. Current certifications in Lifeguarding, First-Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. LGI Certification and WSI are a plus. Salary: $20.00 to $25.00 /hour Full-Time Hourly.
