Head Competitive Swim Coach
The YMCA of Metro North is looking for a  Full  Time Head Competitive Coach  to bring their aquatic passion to the newly merged Swim Team.  The team will have three locations: Lynn, Peabody and Melrose.  Under the direction of the Association Aquatic Adviser, the Head Swim Team Coach is responsible helping our swimmers to realize what they can be instead of what they are, organizing and conducting practices, clinics, meets and other events for the YMCA of Metro North Swim Team. As their coach, your job is to set the bar high, inspire them to reach this bar, encourage them, and most of all, guide them in the best possible manner and in the most supportive environment. This newly formed team had 130 swimmer enrolled in the 2018 fall/winter season with room to grow.  This program is conducted in accordance with the missions and policies of the YMCA of Metro North, the YMCA of the USA, and USA Swimming. We invite our new coach to be a link to our storied past and the bridge to our successful future.   Qualifications A minimum of Lifeguarding (ARC) and CPR/AED/AEO is required. Coaching certifications from YMCA of the USA and USA Swimming. Certification from ASCA is preferred. Two to four years competitive coaching experience is required. Two years Head Coach preferred. Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to communicate recognized principles and practices of coaching young swimmers. Demonstrated ability to build a team of quality coaches. Great communication skills a must as well as supervision and public relations skills. Sexual harassment training must be obtained within 6 months. Additional certifications preferred: Lifeguard Management, WSI and/or Y Swim Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, and Pool Operator. Essential Functions Contribute to and supervise the fulfillment of the YMCA Mission and character development values through the YMCA of Metro North Swim team program. Develop staff through supervision and development opportunities. Recruit, train, and supervise all level swim coaches, coach’s assistants, and parent volunteers. Recruit and oversee the Parent’s Association volunteers, attend monthly Parent Advisory meetings or arrange a coach representative. Assure that monthly all-parent meetings are held (this can include the spring banquet). Encourage recruitment of swimmers through YMCA swim lesson programs as well as other YMCA youth programs in collaboration with the Association Aquatic Adviser and the Aquatics Directors. At times, teach swim lessons and guard during low swim team times. Maintain and administer Team Unify Develop and maintain a recordkeeping system of the status and progress of each swimmer. In conjunction with the assistant swim coaches, prepare all meet entries assuring that every child swims in every meet they attend. Develop a schedule for swim team practices across multiple facilities, and develop competitive swim clinics each year. Update, maintain, and distribute the Swim Team handbook. Communicate regularly with the Association Aquatic Advisor and all coaches. Maintain communication and rapport with all swimmers and their parents. Demonstrate an enthusiastic attitude towards the team and provide a positive learning environment for all. Oversee the team unify website and other social media and ensure that it is kept up to date. Assist in the preparation of an annual budget under the guidance and supervision of the Association Aquatic Adviser, and manage that budget for the Swim team program in accordance with established procedures and expectations. Represent the YMCA of Metro North at YMCA regional events and trainings. Continue to develop and evaluate the USA Swimming program as part of the Swim program. Report any facility problems, needed repairs to the Facility Director. Evaluate all programs annually to ensure they meets the needs of program participants. Keep current with swim coaching techniques and issues. Membership in ASCA recommended. Keep all certifications current and monitor coaching staff to ensure their certifications are also kept current. Attend practice in each location each week. Other duties as needed. Cause-Driven Leadership® Competencies Staff Administration: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, will assist in recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, motivating and evaluating swim team staff, as well as taking disciplinary action up to and including termination as needed. Program Development: Assist with the evaluation and improvement of the swim team program. Assist with the creation of new programs and new collaborations. Supervision: Supervise all assistant coaches, coach aids, volunteer coaches, and mentors. Complete reports, projects, and assignments as needed or assigned. Attend meetings and trainings as needed or assigned.   Required Certifications A minimum of Lifeguarding (YMCA or ARC) and CPR/AED/AEO is required. Coaching certifications from YMCA of the USA and USA Swimming. Certification from ASCA is preferred. Principles for YMCA within the first 60 days of hire Salary $45,000 - $52,000.

The Salem YMCA is seeking a leader with a background in aquatics to manage the operations of our Aquatics Department.   The Aquatics Director is responsible for all aspects of the instructional and recreational aquatics experience. Located in the heart of downtown Salem, the Salem YMCA provides over 150 swim lessons to youth weekly, offers aqua activities for all ages, and is host to a local High School Swim Team.  Key responsibilities of this role include recruiting, retaining and transitioning swimmers of all ages and abilities through the programs and working collaboratively with the competitive team to achieve a successful conversion rate of instructional swimmers to the competitive program. Through strong leadership, efficient planning, high quality engagement, and direct service, the Aquatics Director manages staff, provides guidance on the technical and physical skills of swimming, creates an environment of fun that develops relationships, achievement and belonging while fostering a lifelong love of swimming and the water.  The incumbent in this role will enjoy connecting with participants and visitors of all ages, have the ability to carry out Aquatics initiatives that meet the goals of the organization, and have a strong skill set in planning and leading others. Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or commensurate work experience. At least 21 years of age with 3-5 years experience as a competitive coach, preferably in a leadership capacity. At least one year of staff supervision experience including one evaluative cycle and demonstrated ability to positively develop and support exceptional performance. Current USA Swimming and or YMCA Swim coach credentials. Certified Pool Operator CPO, CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 3 months. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to relate to individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Head Age Group Coach/Aquatics Supervisor Tuesday – Saturday   The JCC Bridgewater Tide (BWTD), located in Bridgewater, NJ, is seeking a full-time swim coach and Aquatics Supervisor to be the primary coach for our Tidal Waves, Bronze, and Senior group programs. The Tidal Waves and Bronze groups are the base of our program, and it is a great opportunity to instruct new swimmers and to get them engaged in the sport. The Senior group is our second-highest level group and is full of high school swimmers looking to improve. The Head Age Group coach will also assist in tasks in the Aquatics Department, as well as oversee the Summer Pool Club.   BWTD is a swiftly growing and improving program, which has grown from less than 90 swimmers in 2017 to a maximum of 140 swimmers in the summer of 2019 with ability levels ranging from novice to AAA level swimmers. Job Responsibilities SCSC Coaching: Responsible for and directs all levels of programming, including lessons/precompetitive, competitive (developmental, age group, seniors), Develop and drive a consistent, team-wide coaching philosophy, which is age-appropriate, emphasizing excellence, goal setting, and team work Plans and oversees execution of all phases of the program relating to athlete performance to ensure consistency and continuity in skill development and progression Devise, communicate, and execute seasonal plans, practice schedules, and training, which support team and individual goals Ensure coaches are following the goals of the training plan Attract and develop coaches who create a pipeline for training and motivating swimmers at every level of the sport. Direct coaching staff, which includes establishing coach performance expectations and development, conducting annual performance reviews, coordinating, and tracking continuing education and required certifications, and building a cohesive coaching staff; emphasizing communication, knowledge sharing, and cooperation Guides the recruitment and retention of swimmers Coach, develop, and attract National Level Swimmers that set a world class standard for excellence in swimming Determines meet schedule (including travel trips) and criteria to participate Sets workout schedules to maximize use of facilities and to meet budgetary requirements Coaches a minimum of one group Stay abreast of current trends, policies, and rules related to USA Swimming Ensures coaching coverage for all USA Swim Meets attended by SCSC Authority to select clinics and national level meets for staff education, along with authority to select staff to attend Promotes and encourages swimmer participation in special programs and clinics offered by USA and Pacific Swimming Provides college guidance and promotion to Senior swimmers during their Junior year in High School and trains the coaching staff on how to provide this guidance Oversees the following relating to meets Disbursement of meet information Maintain best times for team Maintain team records SCSC Administration: Responsible for directing entire Wet side staff (all site coaches and assistant coaches and CFO) Establish leadership and communication systems for handling community, local, national, and international swim relationships on behalf of the SCSC now and in the future Is a member of the SCSC Board of Directors Oversight of all SCSC administration with the assistance of administrative staff per and in accordance with SCSC by-laws Responsible for the daily operations of SCSC Partner with, advise, and assist the Board of Directors in conducting strategic Board responsibilities including annual club budgeting, annual club goals, fiscal policies, fee structures, club communication, membership, meets, and fundraising Collaborate and make recommendations to the Board regarding staffing requirements and changes. Has authority to hire and fire staff within budget constraints Facilitates recruiting, retention, career development and growth for staff members: Provides written job descriptions and annual evaluations to the Board for all salaried coaching and administration staff, and supervises salaried staff in developing job descriptions and annual evaluations for hourly staff Plans and directs regular staff meetings Responsible for salary and bonus recommendations within budget constraints and approval from Board Communicates with the Board of Directors regarding all aspects of team management Primary responsibility for establishing processes for dealing with all coaching, staff, issues and partners with Program Director on member issues when applicable Schedules routine office hours for all full-time coaches and the office staff Provide bi-monthly reports on the state of the team to all Board members Ensure Program Director maintains the SCSC website, publish a regular newsletter to the club membership, attend community meetings, and represent SCSC at all appropriate community meetings. Create and communicate annual calendar of meets, training, fundraisers, and related membership events. Responsible to make sure all USA Swimming Club Excellence program paperwork is completed annually and turned in on time. Allocation of any grant money from this program is at the sole discretion of the Head Coach. Requirements ASCA Level 4 or higher Knowledge of Hy-Tek, Team Unify and Microsoft Office Able to manage a multi-site program and direct staff Able to recruit and retain top level coaches Good verbal and written communication skills High level of honesty and integrity Maintain current certifications (CPR, Coaches Safety, Background, APT) Must be able to attend all Board meetings and weekend events/meets NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Head Swim Team Coach
The primary duty of the Head Swim Team Coach is to grow, develop, organize, and implement a high quality competitive swim team.  Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for Swim Team Staff in accordance with YMCA policies.  The Head Swim Coach is responsible for planning and operation of the Swim Team in accordance with the guidelines of the YMCA of the USA, YMCA of Kanawha Valley and USA Swimming. The Head Coach is cooperatively responsible for the safe operation of the swimming pool and the Learn to Swim Program.. Your performance will be measured by: 1. Number of swim team participants. 2. Amount of positive revenue being generated by the program ( donations, grants, fees, entrepreneurial activities) 3.  Number of volunteers engaged in hosting & running a program. 4.  Number of YMCA memberships generated by or resulting from swim team program participants. 5.  Number of joint endeavors  with other organizations in the Valley. 6.  Retention Rate:  the % of youth participants who come back within one year for swim team operated programs. Criteria: *  The incumbent must be at least 21 years of age. *  Have a clear driving record and be qualified to drive a YMCA vehicle. *  Must possess a valid and current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training or Swim Coach Safety Training and CPR Certification. *  Required to either currently possess or achieve certification for YMCA coaching, USA swimming and lifeguarding certifications within 90 days of hire date. *  Must be experienced in Hytek, Meet Manager, Team Unify, Team Manager and Microsoft Office. Essential Functions: *  Organize and leads all aspects of the Swim Team program, including practices, meets, and related events.  Complies with all YMCA and league rules and guidelines. *  Oversees all branches of the YMCA of Kanawha Valley Swim Teams. *  Maintains regular, positive communication with swimmers, parents and YMCA staff. *  Disseminates all rules and regulations during practices and swim meets. *  Implements the YMCA of Kanawha Valley's survey collection procedures ensuring the collection of critical customer feedback. *  Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches and volunteers. * Maintains a Swim Team Advisory Council. *  Hold swim team parent meetings. *  Attends all practices, swim meets, and league meetings. *  Plan and organizes all home swim meets. *  Manages electronic swim team management and communication system. *  Organizes and directs the summer competitive swimming season. *  Cooperatively assures maintenance of necessary certifications, continuing professional growth and adherence with all risk management policies and procedures. *  Cooperatively supervises personnel and volunteers as needed.  Helps develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. *  Oversees scheduling of High School meets and practices with coaches. *  Helps with PE Credit Program for Home Schoolers. *  Exercises necessary control to assure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists. *  Enforces all pool safety rules and implements pool emergency procedures with necessary, including completion of Incident Report Form. *  Be alert, friendly and responsive to swimmers, parents, and co-workers. *  Ensure proper installation and usage of pool equipment, i.e., lane lines, emergency equipment, etc. *  Attend staff meetings and trainings as required. *  Carry out other duties as assigned by Branch Directors, COO or CEO. *  Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies. *  Ensure that regular, consistent communication takes place with area of responsibility. *  Delivers presentations and messages suited to the characteristic and needs of the audience. *  Continually assesses the skills and abilities of others to identify development opportunities. *  Is capable of delivering positive and constructive feedback to motivate, encourage, and support others in their development. *  Assist in generating an annual budget to perform the duty described: operate within the budget.
