Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District 1195 SE Kemper Way Madras, OR 97741 541-475-4253 MADRAS SWIM TEAM (MST) HEAD COACH JOB DESCRIPTION Part-Time Employment Salary: $16.00- $20.00/hour, will average approximately 16-20 hours per week PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide youth swim coaching to the Madras Aquatic Center Recreation District (MAC Rec. District), Madras Swim Team and Master Swimmers. CONTRACT DATES: Monday, August 5th, or sooner KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Maintain and coordinate all coaching duties with all facets of the MST Team, including organizing and planning of all practices and game strategies, scheduling of competitive meets, training and health education of athletes, and recruiting of athletes for the program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Utilizes developmentally appropriate teaching techniques to instruct diverse participant groups. 2. Knowledge of the rules and regulations of swim meets, swimmer eligibility, stroke and turn and other related aspects of competitive swimming. 3. Plan and execute structured workouts and coordinate competitive events. 4. Observes athletes detect and correct mistakes; provides feedback on performance. 5. Adapts teaching approaches to the age, experience, and ability of participants. 6. Promotes team spirit and good sportsmanship at all times. 7. Effectively communicates verbally to supervisors, staff, and participants. Keeps participants and parents informed about their progress. Informs coordinator and/or supervisor of any safety issues or concerns. 8. Ensures the safety of all program participants by enforcement of pool policies and rules; submit Accident/Incident Reports to the Supervisor within 24-hours of the incident. 9. Maintains professionalism at all times. 10. Perform related duties as assigned 11. Work closely with and communicate with the MST board of directors, and assist with fundraising efforts 12. Seek and establish sponsorship for MST 13. Report to Pool Manager to schedule home meets and practices. BEHAVIORS 1. FREQUENT INTERACTION WITH OTHERS a. The job demands a positive and constructive view of working with others and the ability to work with youth ranging from ages 3-18 on a daily basis. TECHNICAL SKILLS: 1. Experience with Microsoft programs, social media, and basic website management. Ability to use and set up a timing system. 2. Education preferred: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable. 3. Experience preferred: 1 year previous swim coach experience. 4. Licensure/Certification required: Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR Safety Training for Swim Coaches must be obtained within a month after hire. The lifeguard class will be offered after the hire date if needed. USA Swimming Coach membership must be completed within 1 week of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (as defined by the insurance carriers’ guidelines). ASCA Level II certification and above is a plus 5. Job Knowledge: Knowledge of swimming techniques and teaching tools, exercise physiology, stroke development, competitive swim strategies, training, and physical health, swimming rules and regulations. 6. Special requirements: Applicants must be physically capable of sustained walking, standing, climbing. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours; including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Part-Time Head Coach
The Sea Lions Swim Team (SLST) is currently looking to fill the position of Head Coach. The Sea Lions call Eisenschmidt Pool in St. Helens, OR home and serve swimmers in Columbia County from Scappoose to Rainier. St. Helens is located on Highway 30 about 25 miles Northwest of downtown Portland. SLST has approximately 30 - 40 year round swimmers ranging in age from 6 – 18 years. The Head Coach is responsible for coaching Age Group and Senior level swimmers and working with the Novice Coach to develop swimmers, set goals for swimmer performance, and establish club goals. Applicants should have a minimum of 1 year coaching experience with swimmers at all ages, including some experience/knowledge of coaching senior level athletes. Coaching candidates should have strong communication skills and are expected to be passionate about developing swimmers and building a strong club. Responsibilities include: • Conduct 5 practices per week. Practice time is Monday – Friday from 5:15 – 6:45 pm. • Write workouts for both the Age Group and Senior Group and coach on deck during practices. • Work closely with the Novice Coach to maintain and develop current swimmers and grow the team. • Schedule swim meets (1 meet per month) and encourage participation. • Manage entries for swim meets and attend swim meets. • Establish a positive environment that promotes the love of swimming. • Work with the board to communicate with swimmers and parents. • Work with the Meet Director for the team’s annual home meet, held in November each year, and encourage participation by all SLST swimmers. • Adhere to all USA Swimming policies • Perform administrative duties as necessary (i.e. tracking attendance) Qualifications: • Current CPR/AED certification • Current First Aid certification • Current Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification • Current Lifeguarding Certification (preferred) • Concussion Training • Athlete Protection • Knowledge of Team Unify management system (preferred) • Knowledge of Hy-Tek system (preferred) Compensation is negotiable based on experience but range from $18 - $22/hour with annual salary range of $10,000 - $12,500 per year. Professional fees and continuing education opportunities are paid for/reimbursed by the team. Additional bonus may be awarded at the discretion of the Board.
