Assignment Full-time, full-year position Regionally competitive benefits package. Starting salary range is $70,000+ with actual placement depending on experience and qualifications. Reports to the Superintendent   Note:  This position is not part of any collective bargaining group and the incumbent will be placed on an individual contract with the Minnetonka Public Schools.   Primary Objective of Position   Manage the entire aquatics activities of the community facilities. Coordinate all aquatics, swim club, and first aid and training programs. The five areas of focus for this position include safety, compliance, people management, program and financial management along with aquatic leadership in the community.    Job Responsibilities 1.  Manage the aquatics facilities in the Minnetonka School District  and surrounding beach areas within the District. 2.  Coordinate the scheduling of all events at the aquatics facilities. 3.  Supervise the Head Swim Club Coach, Head Age Group Coach, Lifeguard Services Coordinator, Aquatics Recreational Activities Coordinator, and Masters Swim Coaches, and Aquatics Office Assistant.  4.  Work closely with the Coordinator of Facilities Services in regard to maintenance, mechanical or custodial issues. 5.  Coordinate the purchasing, inventory and maintenance of pool equipment. 6.  Manage programs, clinics and classes associated with the facilities including scheduling registration and payroll. 7.  Work with staff to investigate and recommend strategies to effectively manage risk in aquatics facilities. 8.  Maximize revenue producing opportunities through traditional and non-traditional usage of aquatics facilities. 9.  Develop and monitor annual budget for aquatics facilities and programs. 10.  Coordinate with physical education staff and district administration on the use of aquatics facilities. 11.  Coordinate with the Anchor Club in the support of all aquatics activities. 12.  Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.   Job Requirements  1.  Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Administration or related field is preferred. 2.  Minimum of two years of successful related experience, including experience in a supervisory or leadership role. 3.  Considerable knowledge of sports and recreational administration. 4.  Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community aquatics program. 5.  Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community aquatics program. 6.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public. 7.  Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 8.  Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.   *Note: It is possible to combine the Aquatics Director position with the girls’ and/or boys’ high school swimming and diving head coach assignments beginning with the 2020-21 season. Each of these coaching assignments provides an annual stipend of $6,077.

The Salem YMCA is seeking a leader with a background in aquatics to manage the operations of our Aquatics Department.   The Aquatics Director is responsible for all aspects of the instructional and recreational aquatics experience. Located in the heart of downtown Salem, the Salem YMCA provides over 150 swim lessons to youth weekly, offers aqua activities for all ages, and is host to a local High School Swim Team.  Key responsibilities of this role include recruiting, retaining and transitioning swimmers of all ages and abilities through the programs and working collaboratively with the competitive team to achieve a successful conversion rate of instructional swimmers to the competitive program. Through strong leadership, efficient planning, high quality engagement, and direct service, the Aquatics Director manages staff, provides guidance on the technical and physical skills of swimming, creates an environment of fun that develops relationships, achievement and belonging while fostering a lifelong love of swimming and the water.  The incumbent in this role will enjoy connecting with participants and visitors of all ages, have the ability to carry out Aquatics initiatives that meet the goals of the organization, and have a strong skill set in planning and leading others. Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or commensurate work experience. At least 21 years of age with 3-5 years experience as a competitive coach, preferably in a leadership capacity. At least one year of staff supervision experience including one evaluative cycle and demonstrated ability to positively develop and support exceptional performance. Current USA Swimming and or YMCA Swim coach credentials. Certified Pool Operator CPO, CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 3 months. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to relate to individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The primary purpose of the Aquatics Manager is to provide outstanding service through warm interactions.  The secondary responsibilities are to manage and supervise all employees and operations of the Aquatics Division including both the leisure pool and competition pool, and beach in a professional manner.  Other responsibilities include: program planning and administration, leadership and coaching for our competitive swim team, personnel and budget management, and aquatic facility and equipment management. Strong verbal and written skills are mandatory as well as high proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.  Extensive customer service and public relations are required.   Coaching Policy Athletic/team Coaches are hired to instruct/teach specific skills where the coach is the teacher and the player(s) is/are the learner(s) and instill teamwork both during team practices and games.  Coaches are not hired to participate with the players during scrimmages or active play, or endurance/strength training.

Our plan includes providing swim instruction, with an overall progression that leads to our national level swim team. Our new facility will house a teaching pool, and 8 lane, 25 yard hi-tech training pool. We are currently searching for an experienced aquatics director / swim school manager to lead our swim academy (Waves Swim Academy) and overall programming at our brand new aquatic center.
