POSITION SUMMARY The Head Swim Coach is expected to create a positive learning environment for swim instruction for all age groups. Responsibilities include age group coaching duties with emphasis on safety, proper skill development, seasonal planning, daily workouts, goal setting and promotion of both competitive swim and team goals. Work schedule is generally 20-25 hours during each work week Sunday – Saturday with evening or weekend work as directed by work schedule, programs and deadlines. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure the safety of swim team/ lesson members, performing lifesaving and/ or first aid procedures when necessary. Enforce team rules and policies as well as pool rules and regulations. Supervise lifeguards and instructors as needed in the absence of the Aquatics Director. Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe. Conduct swim team workouts and provide instruction to swim team members: enhance their swimming skills and development. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress. Maintain positive, courteous and professional relationships with families and children enrolled in the youth and camp programs, all JCC staff, professional staff from other related agencies and the greater community. Keep complete records and write daily reports of each swimmer’s progress. Perform various clerical duties in support of the swim team such as responding to parents and swimmers questions and memos, ( in person, via email or phone) creating workouts, taking attendance and assisting with meet entries as needed. Participate in regular in-service training sessions. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor such as lifeguarding as needed, assisting with picking up/drop off children from preschool, filling in for the Aquatics Manager when not present, (including teaching learn to swim classes for preschool). ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Must have the ability to see and hold an image of a student’s performance of a stroke in memory in order to provide feedback and correction. Must have the physical flexibility required to demonstrate and perform all six of the basic swimming strokes; and must also be able to tread water and float on front and back. Instructors must be able to see in bright light. (Instructors must have their own equipment, i.e. sunglasses, for dealing with glare and bright light conditions.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be attired appropriately for entering the water as part of their teaching ability. Must have the ability to enter the water as needed to perform maintenance and other functions, and should be able to return to their initial post for extended periods. Ability to work collaboratively with agency staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere, and maintain courteous and professional working relationships with members, guests, vendors and outside contacts of agency. Must adhere to all agency policies and procedures, including agency safety requirements. They are front-line individuals who visit aquatic facilities across the country and provide direct services to these sites. Their feedback and reports assist management of aquatic facilities in developing procedures that recognize aquatic hazards and outline effective responses to aquatic emergencies. Responsibilities Recording video of on-duty lifeguards both in an undercover capacity and while lifeguards demonstrate skills. Reviewing aquatic facility documentation related to lifeguard operations. Evaluating lifeguard performance in surveillance and emergency response skills on the job through on-site lifeguarding evaluations. Preparing reports and completing evaluation forms, as required. Identifying areas where aquatic facilities could improve lifeguarding operations and performance based on the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program.  Conducting in-service training sessions and/or aquatic emergency action plan drills.  Assisting the Aquatics Program Specialist in coordinating and conducting the annual lifeguarding operations assessment and report as needed.  Mentoring new Aquatic Examiners in training. Who we are: Colorado Athletic Club is Denver’s leading upscale athletic, aquatics, tennis and family fitness club with 7 convenient locations across Colorado’s Front Range.  Our club supports the lifestyles of busy professionals, families, health enthusiasts and those who simply strive to be more active by providing a wide spectrum of unique fitness and wellness services.   What our Swim Coaches are all about: Our Swim Coaches are experienced professionals with a passion for helping children ages 6-18 meet their competitive swimming goals.  They enjoy analyzing performance, providing instruction on swimming techniques and working with our aquatics department to prepare for competitive events.   Some responsibilities include: At a minimum, be on deck to help coach dryland exercises or swimming for any age group (6 – 18 y.o.) every Monday through Friday 3:30pm – 8:30pm; Provide routine pool maintenance tasks throughout the week before or after coaching (brushing walls, cleaning gutters, testing chemicals, cleaning decks, fixing tiles, etc); Provide administrative support to the team and coach throughout the week on your own schedule outside of coaching .(with deadlines) such as responding to emails, calendaring dates, handling parent questions, managing roster, etc.; Option to teach swim lessons during the week during the daytime (able to coordinate your own schedule outside of coaching). What you’re all about: A joy and enthusiasm for working with children and helping them improve their competitive performance. You are a former USS / USA Swimming athlete 3 years of previous coaching experience and/or aquatics experience and coaching membership that is in good standing with USA Swimming. An ASCA Level II certification (or higher) is highly desirable but not required. High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Bachelor’s degree ideal. Exceptional communication and motivation skills with children with the ability to consider varied social, emotional and physical attributes. An attitude of inclusion and team building. We are seeking an enthusiastic and organized age group coach. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to developing quality age group swimmers through our established curriculum focused on fundamental stroke technique. This coach will be working directly with our Head Coach to establish technically efficient swimmers. Friends Select School is currently seeking applicants for a part-time Assistant Age Group to assistant our year-round age group team of approximately 85 athletes aligned by four levels. Job Responsibility Coaches will be responsible for between 15-20 hours of on-deck coaching per week, and may attend 1 weekend meet per month. Hours will depend on groups and coach availability. Assist other coaches as needed within FSA, and communicate regularly with counterpart group coaches. Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with the FSA curriculum. Recommend practice level placement and changes for all swimmers in currently in practice groups and in one group below current training group. Desired Qualifications: High School / College Degree (preferred) Desire & passion for developing swimmers at a competitive level. Patient and gives simple instructions. Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills. Expertise with current technique development and training methodologies. Enthusiastic and highly motivated team player. ASCA Level 1 certified or above Team Unify /Hy-Tek Meet/Team Manager skills (A Plus) 2 years competitive swimming experience (preferred) Current CPR, First Aid, Coaches Safety, and Safe Sport certifications and membership in good standing with USA Swimming.
