My swimming philosophy capitalizes on the laws of physics to achieve maximum potential and speed. Technique is the number one component to my practices. Drills are used in order to get the students swimming correctly in a very short period of time. Because of stroke similarities, most of my practices are broken up into concentrations on free/ back, breast/ fly, or IM days. Turns and dives are reinforced every single session, as they are what separate the great from the mediocre. I believe that it is important to prevent the faster swimmers from getting bored, and slower swimmers from feeling discouraged. I arrange the lanes according to ability and give extra instructions or faster intervals/ longer distances as needed. We always finish together for dives at the end of practice. I have a work hard/ play hard outlook. Spiderman, dolphins, sharks, and rockets are some of the references used on a daily basis in order to relate to the swimmers. If I am able to get through practice without interruptions, we often play a game for the last 5-10 minutes. All of my dry land exercises are directly related to what we are doing in the pool that day. I often show videos in my teachings. We frequently study world-record races in order to stay abreast of the fastest techniques and look at our own recordings in order to correct certain movements as well. As a USA Swimming coach, I have regularly utilized TeamUnify when registering athletes for meets, emailing weekly updates to parents, editing the schedule, and obtaining swimmers' records. Swimming has been a constant life-long passion of mine. I competed with USA Swimming for eight years and swam with US Masters over the course of three. When I swim, I am constantly thinking about my body movements and how I can get to the other end of the pool with the least amount of energy as possible.
