Colligate Swim Coach

Andrew Eggersgluss
I have  coached four years at the high school level, as well as six years at the club level and finally making the move to coaching at the collegiate level for DePauw University for three years.  Many of the experiences that I have come across came from the fifteen years of swimming competitively, my years as a high school swimmer, and for my years as a collegiate athlete in swimming and water polo. Throughout my years as an athlete I have been able to experience many different styles of coaching, techniques and understanding of new ways to teach certain strokes.  I have had the pleasure of working with many different coaching styles as well as coaches who have brought a new way in looking at the sport.  Through my prior experience as a teammate and as an assistant coach, I have learned many lessons and techniques that have helped me be an excellent and proficient coach - all of which I employ in my coaching duties today. Among others these include teaching proper stroke technique, instilling a winning work ethic, running drills to maximize conditioning, helping maintain a healthy mental attitude and explaining race strategies for many of the events.

I am a 29-year-old swim coach from Louisiana looking to make coaching my full time career. I believe in order to do this I need to move out of Louisiana, and I am willing and ready to do that. I started coaching during the summer of 2015 for a small summer team, and that led to me coaching a local high school team for two seasons, and also coaching for the South Louisiana Swim Team year-round. I continued coaching until COVID-19 when the pool that we were practicing at shut down and never opened back up. That's when I started working at Starbucks first as a barista but then I quickly moved up to be a shift supervisor. This past school year I was contacted by Hammond High School to coach their swim team which brought back my love and passion which has led me to pursue a Masters in Kinesiology with a focus in Sports Management through LSU.

I am currently working on my Associate's of Applied Mortuary Science (hince why my resume is filled with information pertaining to the funeral industry).  But my experience related to Swim is well in depth.  I started on my local summer swim team in The Woodlands, TX when I was 5 and did that every summer until I turned 18.  At the age of 10 I also started swimming with the year around with  The Woodlands Swim Team (TWST) and competed all over the U.S. in many national level competitions.  I was supposed to go to the Olympic Trials but unfortunate family events prevented me from going.  When I swam with The Woodlands Waves (Summer league) My events were the 50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Free, 100 IM, 200 Free Relay, and 200 Medley relay.  My relay team held the league record for many years and I personally held the record for the 50 Back and 50 Breast for a few years.  In my time at The Woodlands Swim Team (TWST) I competed in many different events (depending on the meet) my events included a wide range from the 50 and 100 Fly; 50, 100, 200 Back; 50, 100, 200 Breast; 50,100, 200, 400 Free; 200 IM; 200 and 400 Medley relay; and 400 Free Relay.  Since aging out and missing the Olympic Trials I have done private lessons to help competitive swimmers perfect their strokes and I have taught private swim lessons over the past 22 years.  I am eager to become a Coach because swim has been my lifelong passion and I have a lot to offer young swimmers with their hearts in swim.

My first day of swim practice was during my sophomore year of high school and from day 1 I was hooked. Despite my late start, through hard work & dedication i was able to earn a spot on a Collegiate Division 2 Swim Team. I walked on to the team my freshmen year and by the time I graduated i earned most of my teams scholarship & ended up breaking the team 100 Butterfly record. After graduating with my bachelors degree in exercise science, I went into the coaching side of swimming. I was an assistant swim coach at the Division 3 level for the last 2 years and I got my first shot a head coaching for a Summer League Swim Team. In my free time I really enjoy working out, spending time in the outdoors, and spending time with my friends & family.
