CFYN Tigersharks 

Cuyahoga Falls / Akron Ohio    -     YMCA / USA Club Team     -     Part Time, Head Coach 

About this position and our team:

The CFYN Tigersharks and Riverfront YMCA are seeking a qualified individual to serve as our new Head Swim Coach. The CFYN Tigersharks is a year round YMCA and USA swim team operating with over 60 years of success. We have approx. 150 swimmers and 10 coaches operating out of the University of Akron and local YMCA branches. We are primarily a YMCA swim team with USA offerings with hopes to continue to grow our USA program. This job is funded by the Cuyahoga Falls Riverfront YMCA and the team owned, parent operated Tigershark board. Our YMCA branch funds YMCA related functions and the board funds USA related functions, generally speaking. As our head coach you would work with the YMCA’s Aquatic Director and Executive Director as well as serve on the Tigershark Board. 

Team calendar year:

Short Course Season (YMCA / USA) September - March 

High School Preseason (Board Owned, USA) September- October

Spring & Summer Long Course (Board Owned, USA) - April-July  

*There is a local summer league team that most of our swimmers participate in and functions as our main feeder source for new swimmers. 

Tigershark Board Job:

Hourly CFYN Board Pay Rate: $15.00   /   Administrative Duties Pay: TBD

Responsibilities: 

• Lead coaching staff in all operations throughout the season. 
• Collaborate with associate head coach & head age group coach on new coach hires, certifications, orientations, etc. 
• Attend monthly board meetings.
• Attend USA HOD meetings and NEO YMCA Swim League meetings (2 a year each)
• Collaborate on creation of our practice schedule and meet schedule. 
• Set up and lead coaches meetings as necessary. 
• Send meet entries promptly for all YMCA / USA invitational meets. 
• Collaborate with Associate Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach to compile dual & championship lineups.
• Collaborate to develop season plans for each practice group. 
• Promptly answer team related inquiries and/or direct to another head coach / board member to respond appropriately. 
• Work with pool leadership individuals to set up practice and meet rentals. 
• Send team emails as needed throughout the season. 
• Recommend swimmers for CFYN select team and USA Swimming. 
• Help plan for the end of season banquet. 
• Anything else required for the development and success of the team.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• High School Degree Required, Bachelors preferred. 
• Competitive swimming experience.
• Minimum of 2 years coaching experience, Head Coaching experience preferred. 
• Knowledge of team manager software. 
• Ability to work with swimmers of all ages and ability levels. 
• Cooperative and respectful interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Completed and up to date educational and safety training/lifeguard water safety standards with USA Swimming / YMCA Swimming. Can be obtained after hire. 

Start Date: Can be flexible. No later than September for the start of the fall season but summer coaching opportunities will be available with our current Interim Head Coach.
