Job Title: Aquatics Program Manager
Department: Youth Development Professional
Reports To: Director of Sports & Recreation
Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Sports & Recreation, the Aquatics Manager is responsible
daily for creating a transformative Club Experience for our program participants, families, members and staff. The Aquatics Manager must be able to lead and manage people to execute exemplary customer service, high quality programs and clean, well-maintained spaces. Innovation will also be a key area of growth for the Aquatics Manager through the learning and implementation of their work.

The Aquatics Manager must be a subject matter expert and innovator in the core programs of the
Club including but not limited to: Lifeguarding; Parent & Child, Preschool, Youth, Private, and Adult Lessons; Family Swim Programs; all Rentals and Pool Parties; and Competitive and Pre-competitive Swim Programs that reflect community needs and maintain the Clubs high standards of quality, safety, and caring.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ultimately, they are accountable for the performance of their team. Directly responsible for
hiring, supervision, and managing all direct reports and ensuring compliance with
Organizational hiring practices for all positions within the aquatic program structure.

Drives program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality, safe and
transformative Club Experience for our youth and families. This is demonstrated by program
enrollment, parent feedback, and youth member feedback using National Youth Outcomes
Initiative, RI Program Quality Assessment, and BGCA Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

Leads and coaches’ staff to ensure high quality programming through the
implementation of the Clubs Swim Lesson program. Monitors and engages in family and
participant communication.

Ensures active participation by aquatics staff in monthly in-service training for both safety and instruction. Provides and documents regular certification training for Aquatics staff and provides ongoing training support.

Ensures that the aquatic environment is well maintained, safe and clean, following RI Department of Health guidelines and compliance standards and Club practices. Ensure program staff conduct daily walk-throughs of facilities. Reports and follow up with staff to address any deficiencies and safety hazards.

Assists with the development of an annual budget according to organizations
instructions and ensures successful execution of the plan. Works to identify growth
opportunities, forecasting on a monthly basis, and address financial deficiencies on a
timely basis.

Establish a network and develop an on-going relationship with youth members’ parents/guardians, with local school personnel, appropriate community members, city personnel, program providers and vendors.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A four-year college degree from an accredited college in related youth development field.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience working at a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development agency.

Experience communicating with families and working with children with special needs/inclusion programming preferred.

Experience hiring, training, and managing staff, including scheduling.

Experience in planning, organizing, and supervising programs.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to youth development, group leadership skills, and an understanding of group dynamics.

Demonstrated knowledge of aquatics programming, instruction and coaching techniques.

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets and control expenses.

Current Lifeguard and WSI certification required

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Lifeguard Instructor preferred, or ability to attain within 60 days of hire

Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are also required.
