 HEAD COACH

JOB  DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS

The Head Coach must be at least 18 years of age and have past experience in competitive swimming.  The Head Coach must have a current CPR certificate (adults and children) and a current First Aid certificate.  It is expected that the Head Coach be committed to the entire season.

COMPETENCIES

The Head Coach should possess demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

-Water Safety Instruction

-Coaching background in competitive swimming

-Knowledge teaching stroke techniques

-Experience working with children of various ages

-Good communication skills

-Organizational and planning skills

-Supervisory skills

-Knowledge of Meet Manager

-Teamwork

-Motivational techniques

-Patience

JOB FUNCTIONS

The Head Coach is responsible for:

-PLANNING THE SEASON, INCLUDING:

     -Planning each practice, writing all group sets, and determining the emphasis for each practice session

     -Scheduling Assistant Coach and coaches aids according to necessity on deck.

     -Planning age group assignments per time slots and staffing accordingly.

     -Determining swimmers’ pace

     -Planning and holding parent meetings

-COACHING SWIMMERS, INCLUDING:

     -Lane assignments

     -Evaluating new swimmers and placing them in correct swim groups

     -Instruction and correction of stroke techniques

     -Motivating swimmers

     -Recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of each swimmer and helping each individual to reach

       their potential

     -Ability to clearly communicate and work well with Parents.

-COORDINATING MEETS, INCLUDING:

     -Swimmer assignments. 

     -Model and teach good sportsmanship and the importance of fair play.
     -Knowledge of meet manager
     -Working closely with the League, other coaches, and attending any league meetings.

-PROVIDES SUPERVISION TO THE ASSISTANT COACH AND THE COACHES AIDE.

-COMMUNICATES WITH AND WORKS FOR THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT AQUATICS COORDINATOR.
