The YMCA of the North Shore SHARKS is a YMCA/USA Swim Team located on the North Shore of Boston. We are a 6 site team with over 400 competitive swimmers from age 5 -18 of varying levels. We are currently seeking a FULL TIME Age Group Coach. Candidates should have 2-5 years of experience, be a well-organized, energetic age group coach with a great understanding of swimmer development and stroke technique, a “self-starter” with a strong work ethic / moral values, a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Team Unify and Meet Manager is preferred but not required. Candidates should have (or be willing to acquire) all of the appropriate USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming certifications as well as lifeguarding or Red Cross Safety Training for Coaches. Any certifications not in place must be acquired our first 3-6 months. Compensation is commensurate with experience and credentials. Essential Functions: Lead structured swim team practices focusing on stroke technique, competition preparedness, relationship building and collaboration based on the YNS competitive swim schedule. Attend all swim team events such as meets, meetings, trainings, social events, etc.; Assist in creating thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc. Keep detailed and accurate records as needed including attendance, work-outs and swimmer progression. Assist in swim team social event planning, as necessary. Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations. Record times at swim meets. Remain up to date regarding aquatics trends National Y as well as emerging YMCA trends within aquatic programming and advocate for the expansion or changing of programs and services aligned with those trends. Maintain consistent, clear, effective and positive communication with youth and parents on the team. Additional responsibilities may include working with our older age groups, Masters and annual Swim Clinic. POSITION: Competitive Swimming Director DEPARTMENT: Aquatics and Swim Team NUMBER OF OPENINGS: 1 HIRING STATUS: Immediate APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 14th, 2018 or until a qualified candidate is identified POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, and in accordance with the policies of the Stevens Point Area YMCA, the Competitive Swimming Director will oversee all competitive swimming program operations, ensure the safety of program participants, and provide direct member service. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS Skills: Requires a highly motivated person with enthusiastic leadership ability and strong background in competitive swimming. Extensive coaching knowledge and teaching experience preferred. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks with limited supervision; proficient in computer operations, including Outlook, Word and Excel. Education and Training: Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field. Must be willing to acquire Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification, along with all USA Swimming or YMCA related certifications within 90 days. Physical Requirements: Must be able to easily move through all areas of our facility, and communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Must be able to routinely demonstrate proper competitive swimming techniques and perform functions to members and staff, including and not limited to squatting, bending, kneeling, and spotting program participants. Must be able to tolerate chlorine and temperatures up to 90 degrees with high humidity. Must be comfortable and able to work with children while swimming. Evaluate training plans and goals for swimmer development, including managing the planning of training cycles with staff coaches. Create, execute and oversee the execution of these plans to ensure a unified coaching approach across all ages/programs.  Ensure staff coaches work with their swimmers for individual goal setting. Enforce and communicate policy and procedures to coaches, athletes and parents. Represent the team at swim meets, external meetings, and other required meetings or assign a delegate. Participates in Board meetings to provide leadership for team short and long term objectives.   Qualifications Current USA Coach Certification, including first aid and life-saving requirements ASCA Level 3 Coaching Certification preferred Familiarity with Team Unify and Hy-Tek Team management skills, able to provide clear verbal/written direction to employees/swimmers/parents, and highly organized History of success of coaching swimmers with different range of athletic ability Self-directed, proven leader promoting teamwork as well as swimmer recruitment and retention Bachelor's Degree and prior collegiate swimmer strongly preferred Salary based on experience with incentives including swim team membership growth and opportunities for additional compensation for private swim lessons. We are searching for an energetic head coach/CEO to develop our swimmers and continue to grow our program and carry IST’s core value: Dedication, Integrity, Perseverance, Teamwork, Loyalty, Culture, Honesty, Education, Health The head coach/CEO will be responsible for all aspects of operating a year-round competitive swim program. Duties include but are not limited to: Contribute to the development and implementation of overall team philosophy on coaching and swimmer development Oversee training group placement, team population and athletes’ performance. Coaches athletes to develop and achieve their highest personal athletic potential. Develop and maintain formal dry land training program for appropriate groups as defined by the definition of the training squads. Collaborate with Operation Administrator to develop seasonal training schedules and monthly schedule adjustments. Actively pursue and participate in meetings, preparing information, and proposals for acquisition of new athletes and additional water space.  The ideal candidate has: At least 10 years experience as an age group coach of a competitive swim team Up-to-date understanding of latest coaching techniques through research and continuing education through USA Swimming or ASCA Ability and desire to work with parents as part of swimmer development ASCA level 2 or higher Bachelor’s degree and personal experience in competitive swimming at the college level Track record of swimmer retention and recruitment Track record of swimmer development at the national level Experience with Team Unify and Hy-Tek Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to foster teamwork Requirements: Must be a USA-Swimming registered swim coach and able to pass the USA-Swimming background check and USA Swimming Athlete Protection Program.
