The University Hills Narwhals , a team in the Irvine Swim League (ISL), is seeking a Head Coach for the summer 2019 season (approx. dates May 28 to August 3). Responsibilities: Managing a swim team with 130 youth swimmers (ages 5-18); Planning practice sessions/workouts & leading the practices; (Monday-Friday, 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm @ the Coltrane Pool near UC Irvine); Assigning swimmers to events and coaching during each swim meet (held Saturdays, 8 am to 1 pm at various local Irvine neighborhood pools); Supervising several assistant coaches; and Attending other team events, meetings, and trainings as required. Must have prior successful experience as a swimmer and coach with children or students; and prior or current certification as lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/WSI. The Chico Area Swim Association (CASA) is seeking a Head Coach to direct all aspects of our aquatic programs.  The overall objective of the position is to direct a year round USA Swimming program that produces the highest attainable levels of excellence in instruction as well as individual and team performance, in a positive environment.  The coach will develop and improve the technical and physical skills of swimming in each participant. This position is responsible for providing a fun and enjoyable environment while orienting participants to competitive swimming.   The Head Coach must develop the skills and talents of team members, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and encourage personal development. The Head Coach will also foster positive relationships, mentor, and communicate well with coaching staff, swim team members, and parents. The Head Coach is expected to work in partnership with members of the Board of Directors, the coaching staff, and other stakeholders to inform and further the organizational goals and objectives.  Applicants should have the proven ability to foster business relationships, assist in securing financial support, and be able to strategize and act to meet or exceed revenue targets. Position is full-time and salaried. Reports To:  The Board of Directors. Essential Job Functions COACHING DUTIES  Team Practice: The Head Coach shall organize all team practices.   The Head Coach is allowed flexibility for the summer workout schedule but must attend both morning and evening hours. Absences due to Sierra Nevada related activities (attending out of town meetings, etc.) are excused. All substitute coaching assignments due to absences are the responsibility of the Head Coach.  Coaching Staff: The Head Coach is responsible for the hiring and termination of all coaching staff and to report to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. The Head Coach shall provide supervision and direction for all assistant coaches. The Head Coach shall provide written goals and objectives for the coaching staff and submit them  annually  to the board for review. The Head Coach shall perform written evaluations of the coaching staff for review annually. The Head Coach shall conduct regular staff meetings with coaching staff. The Head Coach will schedule all team meets. The Head coach shall be responsible for designating the appropriate number of coaches to be in attendance at all team meets and dual meets.  If the Head Coach will not be present at a meet, he/she shall provide the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, at least one week in advance, with the names of assistant coaches and/or substitute coaches who will be attending the meet. The Head Coach shall set the format for all team meets in coordination with the Meet Director. The Head Coach will have the opportunity to attend at least one coaching seminar per calendar year with approval from the Executive Committee.  The Swim Association will pay the cost of registration, travel and lodging as allowable within the budget for the given year. The Head Coach along with the Board of Directors shall be responsible for promoting fundraising efforts and related team activity by informing parents and encouraging the swimmers to participate. The Head Coach shall ensure that the coaching staff has met the minimum safety requirements established by USA Swimming. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES  The Head Coach shall report directly to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors regarding all administrative matters.  The Head Coach shall attend all regularly scheduled board meetings and: Provide the Board of Directors with a monthly review of all team progress and assistant coach performance and make appropriate recommendations. Provide the Board of Directors with updates of events relating to Sierra Nevada Swimming (SNS), North Valley Aquatic League (NVAL) and other legislative bodies. The Head Coach shall be responsible for the recording of attendance at team practices and submitting a monthly report by the following month to the Membership Director. The Head Coach shall participate in the formulation of and execution of the discipline policy for members of the swim team.  This policy shall be in writing and shall be included in the registration packet and issued to all swimmers and their parents. The discipline policy stated in the Parent Handbook shall be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors. The Head Coach shall be responsible for maintaining all personnel files, including written reviews and documentation of meetings with employees.  All files must be reviewed annually and updated. All employees must have one on one review at least once a year. The Head Coach must review, approve and have time cards ready for bookkeeper.  It is the coach’s responsibility to verify hours and communicate with employees. The Head Coach and/or approved designee shall: Attend all NVAL scheduled meetings and team sanctioned meets each season.   Be responsible for: Maintaining team files monthly. Managing swim clinics. Providing motivational activities for swimmers. Writing and distributing weekly parent communication via email and oversight relative to the team website. Manage distribution of other printed material (meet sheets, flyers, etc.). Coordinating regular social activities (pizza nights, BBQ’s, etc.). Creating monthly attendance rosters for coaches. Provide meet results to news media. Parent education communications and meetings. Minimum Qualifications At least 10 years’ coaching experience preferred American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Certification (Level 2 or above) or ability to obtain certification. Proven experience running the ‘dry side’ of a youth sports non-profit or other organization. Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Able to present information effectively to large groups of adults as well as children in both instructional and non-instructional settings. Capable of working independently and as part of a team. Good work ethic and a desire to “get the job done.” Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously. Efficient self-starter that takes initiative while able to accept supervision and direction as required. Willingness to share ideas and collaborate. Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively. Commitment to provide and ability to supervise high quality customer service. Proven research skills, including use of the Internet and other resources. Knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar computer applications. Interest and commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations. Valid driver’s license. Maintain First Aid, CPR, AED and Water Safety Instructor certifications. Plans, organizes and schedules in an efficient, productive manner; anticipates contingencies and demonstrates flexibility.  Excellent organizational skills and pays attention to detail. Interested in a USA Swim Team Head Coach position without administrative duties, located just a few miles from the beach?  The Ocean Pines Swim Team (OPST) located in Ocean Pines, Maryland (a few miles from Ocean City) is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced head coach with excellent leadership skills to further develop and expand our existing team.  OPST is a non-profit, USA Swim team that offers a competitive swim program for a variety of ages and abilities.  The team is coach-led and governed by a Board of Directors. The head coach position is a member of the OPST Board of Directors and is supported by several assistant coaches as well as additional volunteer board members.  The Ocean Pines Swim Team is continually growing in size and is eager to further their development in USA competitive swimming.  The team recently obtained new technology to further expand the team’s access to the most advanced tools  possible for the coaching staff to use in their instruction with swimmers. The current year round team has approximately eighty-five, USA Swimming registered athletes who compete in the Maryland LSC. During the summer, the team’s membership increases to 140+ swimmers and also competes in the Delmarva Swim Association (DSA) league.  Out of the 26 teams across the Delmarva Peninsula who participate in the DSA league, OPST placed second during the Delmarva Championship Meet in July 2018.  COMPENSATION: This is a salaried position with compensation based on qualifications and experience. Job-related education, travel, and other relevant expenses are covered or reimbursed. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION : Manage an existing year-round competitive USA swim team and the complimentary summer league team. Oversee daily practices, meets, schedules, and assistant coaches. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Contribute to and advance the team mission.  Provide coaching to ensure swimmer development and promote team dynamics. Implement and improve on the existing program to attract and retain swimmers. Provide positive representation of the team locally, regionally, and nationally. Maintain registration as a USA swim coach.  Instruct swimmers using effective coaching techniques, evaluate performances, and initiate appropriate disciplinary action as needed. Demonstrate swimming technique, observe swimmers to detect and correct mistakes, and provide related feedback to all swimmers. Exhibit professionalism and comply with the USA Swimming Coaches Code of Conduct.   Provide oversight and ensure assistant coaches do as well. Track swimmers’ training goals along with attendance figures. Meet individually with swimmers on a seasonal basis to ensure individualized goals are set and progress is monitored. Develop and lead seasonal training plans . Implement “dry-land” strength-training that will complement water training to help swimmers reach their potential. Assume responsibility for the care and maintenance of swim team equipment. Plan seasonal competition schedules for all groups.   Review and submit entries (in conjunction with the team administrator) for all swimmers participating in USA Swimming and summer league meets. Coordinate practice times .  Consider the needs of each training group based on skill level, coach availability, school hours, and facility availability. Create staff schedules f or practices and meets. Evaluate swimmer skill levels.  Conduct evaluations initially and periodically to place swimmers in appropriate training groups. Maintain minimum requirements for team participation and criteria for defining the different training groups. Demonstrate the leadership necessary to mentor assistant coaches. Maintain and ensure all necessary coaching certifications are up to date for all coaches. Participate in, and provide evaluation and professional development opportunities to foster an environment conducive to continual learning and enhancement. Utilize expertise and advanced knowledge in providing instructions to swimmers.  Provide attentiveness to all swimmers.   Ensure critiques and feedback are provided on a daily basis in practice environments for each swimmer based on their skill level and development. Maintain consistent and timely communication.  Respond to swimmers, parents, coaches, and board members as required.  Attend monthly board meetings. Attend seasonal parent meetings to educate and inform families and team building activities as often as possible. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of researched based, best practices for coaching techniques.   Ensure all coaches participate in research and continuing education. Adhere to facility use requirements.  Promote and enforce adherence to facility regulations by all OPST members. EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE : Bachelor’s degree in related field, one to three years experience as a head coach of a competitive USA swim club, and personal experience in USA competitive and/or collegiate swimming, are all preferred. A combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential job functions, is required. WORKING CONDITIONS : In and around both indoor and outdoor pool facilities. Requires traveling to attend swim meets. Short course season practices are held during evening hours at an indoor pool. Long course and summer league season practices are held in the mornings at an outdoor 7-lane, 25 yard, pool.   Summer league meets are held Monday and Thursday evenings at either the OPST home pool or away at other local facilities.  Typically 7-8 DSA summer league swim meets are held during the season. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All USA Swimming Coach certification requirements including First Aid, CPR, Coach’s Safety Training, Safe Sport, and coach education are required.  Must be able to pass background check. The Dallas Mustangs, a year-round USA Swimming recognized club team in the DFW area is looking for a swim instructor to lead our learn-to-swim/pre-competitive program. This person will be assisted by multiple junior coaches. We are looking for someone to help build the pre-competitive program and use it as a building block towards the competitive groups. This person will oversee 3 different groups divided out by ability (Colts, Ponies, Pre-Comp). This person MUST have prior learn-to-swim experience working with swimmers ages 3+.
