Position Title: Head Club Coach (USA-S Program and Recreational/ Seasonal Swim Team)
Club: Tigershark Aquatics (ATAC)
Location: Allegan, Michigan
Reports To: Board of Directors
General Summary: Tigershark Aquatics is seeking a qualified Swim Club Coach to oversee the growing USA Swim program as well as the longstanding recreational team program. The candidate should be available to work up to 3 hours per day for practices and attend all scheduled meets. Head coach would lead our year-round USA swimming program as well as oversee the Seasonal Recreational Swim Team. In both programs, we currently have approximately 90 swimmers yearly ranging in age from 5-18. The ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable and able to communicate with assistant coaches, parents.
The Head Coach is to oversee all aspects of our competitive swim program, with direct coaching responsibilities. The overall objective of the position is to continue to guide and grow both the USA-S & Recreational Swimming Program to produce the highest attainable levels of competitive excellence in individual and team performance, while fostering a positive environment that fulfills ATAC goals and vision. It is expected that the head coach will foster positive relationships, mentor as appropriate, and communicate well with their coaching staff to assist in building a strong community swimming program, a strong varsity program, swim athletes of all ages, swim team parents, and the Board of Directors.

Head Coach Roles and Responsibilities of USA Swim:
Responsible for direct coaching duties of all levels of swimmers enrolled in the USA-S team and swimmers on the recreational swim team as needed based on assistant coach roles.
Work with the Board to ensure self-sustaining and ever growing non-competitive and age group base within the organization
Design and oversee training plans for all training groups
Oversee seasonal progression of athletes, set goals with swimmers, monitor phases of development with individual swimmers
Prompt attendance at all scheduled workouts and swim meets to include weekends
Set training schedules, practice groups, and athlete placement within groups
Plan each season's meet schedule consistent with the needs of the team, individual training groups, and athletes and their families.
Assign necessary staff for all scheduled swim meets and practices.
Head Coach assigns the schedule for assistant Coaches
In case of swim meet conflict, the Head Coach attends highest competition level
Decides all individual and relay events for athletes at swim meets; or review those selected by assistant Coaching staff.
Set and report USA-S and Recreational Team performance highlights to the Board.
Facilitate individual age appropriate goal setting processes with all swimmers.
Has authority to dismiss any swimmer (at least temporarily)
Establishes an environment that fosters positive team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, and responsibility
Support and facilitate progress toward USA Swimming Club Recognition and Club Excellence Goals
Maintain Team Records
Attend Daily Practice Monday-Friday
Attend all ATAC Meets
Attend USA-S Meets as discussed with ATAC Board.
Supervise Swimmers in pool area at all times.
Give instruction and feedback on training and technique
Communicate with parents and swimmers; meet information, results, feedback.
Greet, acknowledge and interact with members at all times.
Create an educational, safe and inviting experience for all participants.
Initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with all participants.
Provide a safe, clean and organized pool area.
Coordinate with facility management to ensure all protocols are being followed.
Send a weekly email to club parents with updates.
Present and participate in all team sponsored events including Annual Golf Outing and End of Season Athlete Award Dinner Banquet.
Attend Team Board of Directors Meetings and provide input.
Maintain information on team website, alleganaquatics.com .
In Charge of:
In service training to assistant staff.
Periodic meetings with assistant coaches.
Staff mentoring and development (including professional development).
Team organizing, planning & development.
Vacation upon request to Club President.
Must have (or obtain prior to being on deck) certification in Adult & Pediatric/ Child CPR and AED.
Prior to attending a USA-S meet, must satisfy requirements to be a USA-S coach member (specific information available on USA-S website).
Candidate should be willing to work towards earning an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.
Passionate about swimming and working with kids.
Knowledge of USA Swimming
Knowledge of all swimming strokes and associated racing skills (Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle)
Must possess/be able to demonstrate:
Decision making ability (in interest of athletes & organization).
Timely and professional communication (written & verbal) with coaches, parents, swimmers, and board members.
Willing to follow directives from board.
Ability to work with and maintain professional relationships with Allegan Public School staff and high school varsity coaches.
Must have working knowledge of Meet Manager and Team Manager Software.
Responsible management of team funds.
Ability to work, train, and instruct one or multiple practice groups Monday-Friday, times will vary. Must be able to work weekends for swim meets that often require travel with federal mileage & lodging reimbursement.
Compensation: Stipend, commensurate with experience ($8,000- $12,000 annual). All travel expenses covered. Cost of certification reimbursed. Reimbursement for training or professional development available.
Physical Requirements: Required to travel to “away” meets, Lifeguard Certification, Background check. Ability to stand for long periods of time on deck. Swimming and/or coaching experience preferred. USA Swim Coach Level 1 preferred.
