Monterey Park Manta Rays (MPMR) swim team is seeking a qualified Head Age Group Coach
who has a passion for swimming and enjoys working with youths. MPMR is an all-year-round USASwimming club operated in the suburbs of Los Angeles. We are a non-profit, parent board governed, and coach-directed youth swim team. The team currently has over 140 swimmers and
continues to grow.
This position will be working with our 14 and under age-group swimmers. We are seeking an
ideal candidate who is outgoing and energetic with creative teaching skills, enthusiastic about
coming to practice, and has a flexible personality. The candidate must demonstrate strong
interpersonal and communication skills to interact and connect effectively with swimmers, parents, Board of Directors, and work well in group and team settings. More importantly, this candidate must possess the ability to motivate, inspire, and foster a positive learning environment for swimmers of varying abilities.
Under the supervision of the Head coach, this individual will be an integral member of a coaching
staff that works closely together to uphold our team’s mission and vision and to provide an
environment where athletes can have fun and learn safety standards, while making an uncompromising commitment to the pursuit of excellence in swimming. Together with the coaching staff and the Board of Directors, the Head Age Coach will help foster a positive and supportive team culture that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Current USA Swimming coach in good standing
• Competitive swimming background required
• Competitive swim coaching experience highly desired
• Previous coaching experience desired
• Strong understanding of age group swimming development, stroke mechanics, and training methodologies
• Experience planning seasons and workouts
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Valid Driver’s License
• Flexible work hours including afternoons, evenings and weekends
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develop season and implement practice plans and training programs for age group
swimmers
• Day-to-day coach for selected groups and assist/cover other groups as needed
• Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to athletes during drylands, competitions, and
team events
• Assess and monitor athlete progress, evaluate swimmer performance, and provide
feedback for improvement
• Help with new swimmer tryouts and evaluations
• Attend and actively participate in swim meets, coaches’ meetings and team events as
assigned
