Springfield Golf & County Club has an immediate opening for a positive, experienced, high-energy, enthusiastic head coach for their competitive summer swim team of approximately 70 participants.
We are seeking a passionate coach committed to motivating and developing athletes ranging in ability from novice to state and national levels. The applicant must be enthusiastic, patient and focused on technique, while making the sport fun. The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the areas of recruitment and retention of swimmers, be skilled in teaching stroke technique, and have the ability to motivate and work effectively with athletes of all ages and abilities.
SGCC competes in the Dominion Country Club League. The season runs from May 28 through July 28. and includes morning and afternoon practices, 5 dual meets (June 15, 22, 29 & July 13, 20), Relay Carnival (July 14), All Star Qualifications (July 27) and All Star Finals (July 28).
Coaching duties include but are not limited to: ++ Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes good sportsmanship, mutual respect for others, and, above all, having fun. ++ Develop and oversee training program for all groups and skill levels, including setting up swimmer groups, practice levels, workouts, and goal setting. ++ Identify and effectively correct technique deficiencies for swimmers in all groups.++Develop, mentor and supervise and delegate responsibilities to the staff of assistant coaches. ++ Attend and lead swim meets, including making swimmer event selections and entries via meet manager. ++ Establish and maintain relationships with regular and timely communication with swimmers and parents, motivating both swimmers and parents for full participation and enthusiasm.++ Help with setup and break down of swim meets and practices. ++ Be the team’s biggest cheerleader.
The ideal candidate has:
2+ years’ experience as a head coach of a competitive swim team An impeccable understanding of swim stroke mechanics Experience supervising and mentoring a staff of 2 or more age-group/junior coaches Demonstrated record of swimmer retention, recruitment Demonstrated record of swimmer development
Must pass a background check Must possess Lifeguarding/CPR Certification or Coaches Safety Certification Must obtain Swimming Pool Operators Permit valid within Fairfax County
