Job Description

Position Summary:

The Head Coach of Sooner Swim Club (SSC) leads a year-round competitive swim program in Norman, Oklahoma. This position is responsible for oversight and administration of all operations of the swim club, to include program planning, daily management, age-group and senior-level athlete development, hiring, oversight and development of employees, composition of training programs, and the promotion of competitive swimming within both USA Swimming and LSC platforms. The Head Coach must have a passion for swimming, working with people of all ages, and coaching along with exceptional communication and organizational skills. 

About SSC:

SSC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the direction of a volunteer board of directors elected by the membership. SSC has been in operation for more than 50 years and currently consists of approximately 140 swimmers and a coaching staff of 5. SSC practices and hosts home meets at the indoor Young Family Aquatic Center (YFAC). Norman is home to the University of Oklahoma and boasts a thriving local community. Throughout its long history, SSC has consistently developed athletes who go on to compete at the collegiate level, including Division I, Division II, and Division III programs across the country. 

Sooner Swim Club has a long-standing tradition of producing elite athletes who compete at the national level and continue their swim careers into college and beyond. Former SSC swimmers have competed at a wide variety of D1, D2, and D3 collegiate programs, to include Harvard, North Carolina State, University of Chicago, Drury, University of Missouri, University of North Florida, and the University of California Berkeley. In addition, Sooner Swim Club has developed Oklahoma state champions and state record holders, Central Zones champions, Sectionals champions and Sectionals record holders, Olympic Trial qualifiers, as well as an NCAA champion and current American record holder. In addition, children as young as 6 are welcomed into SSC's competitive swim environment. Sooner Swim Club's goal is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at any level of ability, from novice to international competitor.    

Facility Details: 

Sooner Swim Club has an exclusive partnership with the City of Norman as the only competitive swim club contracted to use the aquatic facilities within The Young Family Athletic Center (YFAC). YFAC is a new approximate 122,000-square-foot facility built on a 12-acre site on the north side of Norman, OK. The YFAC stands as a pinnacle of excellence, offering premier basketball and volleyball courts, aquatics, sports medicine, youth sports, sports camps, leagues, and a retail store. The City of Norman has four hotels with 600 rooms within walking distance. The facility is sought after for sports tournaments, will be open for rentals, and has hours for the community to enjoy. The aquatic portion of the building features two pools, an 8-lane 25-yard competition pool with spectator seating and a 4-lane 25-yard pool used as a warm-up pool during swim competitions; men’s and women’s locker rooms are located adjacent to the pools, professional diving blocks with back-kick plates for great starts,  the latest version of the Colorado timing system, hospitality room, officials meeting room, conference room, the newest version of Meet Manager software, a large video board to display times, space for local swim teams, private lessons, group fitness, adaptive swim lessons, and more.
