Tampa Preparatory School is seeking a dynamic, high-energy Head Varsity Swim Coach to lead our competitive Upper School program. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who balances technical expertise with the ability to inspire athletes. You will be responsible for the overall vision, training methodology, and culture of the Varsity team, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment that fosters both athletic excellence and personal growth.
1. Coaching & Athlete Development
Program Design: Develop and implement comprehensive seasonal training plans (including dryland and water workouts) for the Varsity program.
Technical Instruction: Provide expert-level instruction on swim techniques allowing for constant improvement for swimmers of all levels.
Athlete Progress: Conduct individual and group goal-setting sessions to track and motivate student-athlete development.
2. Meet Operations & Technical Leadership
Meet Management: Determine meet schedules, manage entries, and provide active coaching/deck leadership during competitions.
Event Coordination: Act as the primary lead for home meets; coordinate with swim officials and manage the recruitment and scheduling of volunteers.
Technical Systems: High proficiency in the setup and operation of Colorado Time Systems (CTS) and related meet management software.
3. Leadership & Administration
Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and mentor assistant coaches to ensure a unified coaching philosophy across the program.
Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, athletes, and the administration. Maintain transparent communication regarding expectations and schedules.
Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to FHSAA and USA Swimming regulations and safety standards.
4. Program Promotion & Culture
Athletic Dept. Collaboration: Work closely with the Athletic Department to actively promote the swim and dive program through school media, community outreach, and campus events.
Program Growth & Retention: Actively promote the program within the Tampa Prep student body to encourage participation and maintain high student-athlete retention.
Team Building: Foster a positive, competitive, and supportive team culture that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of competitive coaching experience, with a proven track record of athlete development.
Certifications:
Safety Training for Swim Coaches
Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of physiology, biomechanics, and energy systems as they relate to swimming.
Soft Skills: Exceptional organizational skills and public speaking ability
Home to the Terrapins, the Colwill Aquatic Complex is conveniently located on campus. It features an eight-lane, 25-yard geothermal heated and cooled pool with custom poured-cement diving platforms and covered pavilions for athletes and spectators.
