Greensboro Swimming Association (GSA): Head Coach

Job Description

The Greensboro Swimming Association (GSA) is seeking an experienced, organized, and visionary leader to serve as Head Coach and lead all aspects of its year-round competitive swimming program.

Entering its 80th year, GSA is one of the longest-standing competitive swim programs in North Carolina and trains primarily at the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC), one of the premier aquatic facilities in the United States. GSA has a strong tradition of developing swimmers from introductory levels through national-level competition while fostering a culture centered on excellence, accountability, athlete development, and team success.

The Head Coach will oversee athlete development, staff leadership, program operations, and strategic planning while fostering a positive, athlete-centered, and high-performance environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the competitive swim program.
  • Lead senior/high-performance training while overseeing athlete development and seasonal planning across all levels of the program.
  • Maintain full-time leadership and operational responsibilities, including an engaged on-deck coaching presence of approximately 20 hours per week, in addition to meet attendance and team activities.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate coaching staff.
  • Conduct weekly coaching staff meetings and attend monthly Board meetings.
  • Provide leadership in program planning, staffing, operations, and strategic growth.
  • Attend national coaching education opportunities, including the ASCA World Clinic or USA Swimming National Coaches Convention.

Qualifications

  • Extensive head coaching experience, preferably including senior and national-level athletes.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and staff management skills.
  • Strong communication and administrative abilities.
  • Current USA Swimming certifications and SafeSport compliance.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Demonstrated success in athlete development, team culture, and program growth.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASCA certification and/or national-level coaching experience.
  • Experience managing large, multi-level swim programs.
  • Experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and staff oversight.
  • History of developing sectional, futures, junior national, national, or international-level athletes.

Compensation

Competitive salary starting at $80,000+, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated success in athlete and program development. Additional compensation considerations may include professional development support, travel reimbursement, championship meet compensation, and performance-based incentives approved by the GSA Board.
