POSITION:   Aquatics Coordinator/Head USA Swimming Coach

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education:

* Bachelor’s Degree

 

Special Knowledge & Skills:

 

  • Certified or eligible for certification as a CPO and ASCA/USA Swimming Coach (or equivalent coaching certification)

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire

  • Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations

  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, operational procedures, and training manuals

  • Effective communicator with experience presenting information and responding to questions from students, athletes, parents, and the general public

  • Proven ability to organize and execute seasonal plans, including scheduling, calendaring, budgeting, and program evaluation




REQUIRED

EXPERIENCE:  

 

Five years of experience in coaching competitive swimming

Five years of experience teaching swimming lessons

Three years of experience in supervisory role

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:   Assists the Assistant Athletics Director of Aquatics in organizing and managing all aspects of aquatics programming for the Southwest Independent School District. Coordinates aquatics developmental programs, provides instruction and oversight to part-time instructional staff, and supports the implementation of swim lessons, middle school aquatics, and summer programming initiatives. Serves as Head Coach for the Southwest ISD competitive swim program, overseeing athlete development, team operations, staff coordination, and program growth while promoting a safe, professional, and student-centered environment. 

 

DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES:  



  • Reports directly to the Assistant Athletics Director of Aquatics and collaborates with the Aquatics Coordinator to schedule, supervise, develop, adapt, and coordinate aquatics programs and operations

  • Assists with creating, organizing, maintaining, and implementing staff schedules, personnel assignments, and employee timecards

  • Participates in the recruitment and interview process for aquatics personnel positions

  • Supports UIL and competitive aquatics events, including organizing swimming, diving, and water polo competition documentation through sport management software; coordinating athlete and spectator logistics; and overseeing event setup and breakdown

  • Researches and evaluates proposed program improvements by gathering and analyzing data, considering alternative solutions, and providing recommendations regarding program pricing, supplies, and equipment

  • Maintains awareness of district curriculum standards to ensure athletics and aquatics programs support the student-athlete instructional process through developmental swim initiatives, including swim lessons, summer swim league, and middle school programs

  • Serves as Head Coach for the SWISD USA Competitive Swim Team, developing program goals, objectives, and team philosophy

  • Communicates professionally and effectively with staff, athletes, and parents to foster a positive and competitive team environment

  • Responsible for training, mentoring, supervising, and conducting seasonal and annual evaluations for instructional and coaching staff

  • Oversees the organization and implementation of the competitive swim schedule, coaching assignments, travel arrangements, and payroll/timecard coordination with administrative staff

  • Supports and works all hosted aquatics competitions and special events as required

  • Maintains required certifications American Red Cross, USAS, UIL Game Administration

  • Ensures a safe, healthy, and secure environment for all student-athletes, staff, and spectators

  • Assists with facility preparation, operations, and cleanup before, during, and after events

  • Helps monitor and manage student and spectator behavior during facility events to maintain a positive environment

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive student, staff, and organizational information

  • Assists with the construction, repair, and maintenance of aquatics equipment and facility resources when needed

  • Serves as a mediator and resource for staff conflict resolution and communication

  • Attends all SWISD trainings, in-service programs, meetings, and professional development sessions

  • Provides operational support for additional athletic programs and events as assigned

  • Demonstrates consistent attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and reliability in daily job performance

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by administration

INFORMATION:  

 

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in

writing, effective management and public relation skills, and ability to

maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing,

stooping, kneeling, twisting and sitting, and ability to lift 50+ lbs. Prolonged

and irregular hours and occasional lifting of 40+ lbs. Work indoors with

exposure to pool chemicals, vapors and damp/wet conditions. May be

required under specific circumstances to physically rescue pool

participant(s) in danger.
