Calvert Aquatics Club (CAC) is one of the fastest growing and most successful competitive swimming programs in Southern Maryland. The Head Development Coach serves as the lead coach for CAC’s Discovery and developmental programming, focusing on swimmers ages 10 & under. This position is responsible for creating and implementing age-appropriate competitive swimming programming that builds strong technical foundations, athlete confidence, team culture, and a lifelong love of swimming.
The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and passionate about long-term athlete development. CAC is seeking a coach with experience designing and developing age-appropriate competitive swim training programs for young athletes, with the ability to balance technical instruction, skill progression, structure, and fun in a positive learning environment.

Coaching Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead coach for CAC’s developmental groups (primary ages 6-10)
  • Develop and implement a yearly season plan that uses progressive goal setting to support long-term athlete development.
  • Design and lead engaging, age-appropriate practices focused on stroke technique, starts, turns, finishes, and overall swimmer development.
  • Supervise assistant coaches in their implementation of coaching plan.
  • Work with the Head Coach to develop practice and competition schedules for assigned training groups.
  • Submit meet entries for assigned groups.
  • Assist with other training groups as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-energy team culture that supports swimmer retention and confidence-building.
  • Reinforce team standards, sportsmanship, accountability, and athlete safety at all times.
  • Promptly attend all assigned practices, swim meets, and team functions.
Communication Responsibilities
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding athlete progress, team procedures, practice expectations, and coaching philosophy.
  • Maintain consistent parent engagement to support a positive team experience and strong swimmer-family relationships.
  • Inform the Head Coach and CAC Executive Committee promptly of issues affecting athletes, staff, or team operations, and recommended solutions.
  • Participate in weekly CAC staff meetings.
  • Collaborate effectively with the coaching staff and administrative team.
Program & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Create and foster relationships with local developmental swimming programs.
  • Develop athlete recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Develop policies and procedures that strengthen CAC’s community-based competitive swim program and promote a positive team culture.
  • Maintain updated calendar of practice schedules, swim meets, events, and updated team/member records on CAC website.
  • Collaborate with the CAC Registrar to ensure swimmers are registered appropriately.
  • Assist with planning and development of CAC home swim meets.
  • Participate in fundraising and community outreach efforts.
  • Participate in professional development activities, in coordination with the Head Coach.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience coaching age-group or developmental swimmers (ages 6–10).
  • Demonstrated experience developing age-appropriate competitive swimming programming for young athletes.
  • Strong knowledge of instruction in stroke development, skill progression, and long-term athlete development principles.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor.
  • Current USA Swimming required coaching certifications, including SafeSport and CPR/AED (or ability to obtain immediately).  Lifeguard certification preferred. 
  • Minimum ASCA Level 2 Certification (or equivalent experience) preferred.
Salary: Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
