About Valparaiso Swim Club
Valparaiso Swim Club is a thriving year-round competitive swim program serving nearly 200 swimmers of all ages and abilities in Northwest Indiana, just one hour from Chicago. The club has experienced significant growth and success in recent years and is committed to developing athletes through technical excellence, hard work, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Group Swim Coach to lead our senior-level training group and contribute to the continued growth and success of our club.
Position Summary
The Senior Group Swim Coach will oversee the training and development of advanced swimmers ranging from high school athletes to sectional, state, and national-level competitors. This individual will design and execute training plans, prepare swimmers for championship competition, and support club operations through leadership and administrative responsibilities.
This position requires deck coaching, meet attendance, athlete mentoring, and collaboration with staff, parents, and club leadership.
This position has the potential to evolve into a broader leadership role based on performance, organizational needs, and the continued growth of the club. The position reports directly to the Head Coach.
Primary Responsibilities
Coaching & Athlete Development
Lead 8 - 9 senior group practices per week; Monday - Saturday
Develop seasonal training plans and daily practice design
Provide technical instruction in all four strokes, starts, and turns
Tailor training to accommodate varying athlete tracks
Lead the team's dryland and strength training program utilizing the SwimStrong program
Implement race strategy and competition preparation
Collaborate with athletes to set clear seasonal and long-term performance goals
Monitor athlete progression and performance metrics
Plan educational clinics and team development activities
Foster a positive culture of accountability, discipline, and team excellence
Competition Responsibilities
Attend local, regional, and championship swim meets
Create meet entries and event lineups
Analyze race performance and provide post-meet feedback
Prepare athletes for Indiana championship-level competition
Administrative Duties
Coordinate meet registration and deadlines
Manage communication with swimmers and families
Track attendance, performance data, and athlete progress
Assist with scheduling and program planning
Participate in coach and board meetings
Ensure compliance with USA Swimming certification and Safe Sport requirements
Support team events, fundraising, and athlete recruitment
Leadership
Collaborate with Head Coach and assistant coaches
Help mentor junior coaching staff
Build positive relationships with athletes and families
Promote strong team culture and sportsmanship
Qualifications
Required
3+ years competitive swim coaching experience
Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics and training methodology
Experience coaching senior or advanced age-group swimmers
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Current USA Swimming certifications or ability to obtain quickly:
CPR / First Aid
Safety Training for Swim Coaches
Athlete Protection Training
Preferred
Experience coaching state, sectional, or national qualifiers
Collegiate swimming or high-level competitive swimming background
Dryland/strength programming experience
Team management or administrative experience
Compensation
Competitive hourly or salaried compensation based on experience
