Job Description

Position Summary

The Owensboro Marlins are seeking an energetic, experienced, and vision-driven Head Coach to lead our competitive, year round, swim program.
The Head Coach will be responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and daily operations of the team, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure high-quality coaching, athlete development, and program growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all competitive swim practices across age groups; help athletes improve stroke technique, conditioning, and race strategy.

  • Provide season planning, meet selection, and training structure for all training groups.

  • Oversee assistant coaches, including scheduling, mentorship, training standards, and program consistency.

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, safe training environment aligned with USA Swimming’s SafeSport standards.

  • Attend and coach at all meets appropriate for assigned groups, including travel meets.

  • Communicate regularly with swimmers, families, and the Board of Directors.

  • Support team development, recruitment, and retention of swimmers across all ages.

  • Manage meet entries, team admin tasks, and coordination with meet hosts as needed.

  • Collaborate with the Board on budgets, staffing, and long-term program strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous competitive coaching experience; Head Coach or senior-level coaching experience preferred.

  • Current USA Swimming certifications (or ability to obtain upon hiring):

    • CPR/AED

    • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

    • Background check

    • Athlete Protection Training

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire swimmers at all levels.

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, positive environment aligned with USA Swimming SafeSport standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple training groups and coaching staff.

  • Track record of developing swimmers to Age Group, Senior, Sectional, or above.

  • Strong understanding of season planning, race strategy, and athlete development.

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience.

  • Additional earning opportunities may include meets, clinics, and team events.
