Position Title: Head Coach for Blazing Barracudas Swim Club
Position Type: 12 month position; Stipend Exempt
Reports to: Director of Operations for Blazing Barracudas Swim Club
The Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the Blazing Barracudas Swim Club, a year-round, co-ed USA Swimming program owned and operated by Hathaway Brown School. The program serves swimmers of varying ages and skill levels across multiple sites, including Hathaway Brown, Twinsburg Fitness Center, Mayfield High School, and Cleveland State University.
This role provides leadership in a high-energy, competitive, and developmentally focused environment. The Head Coach is responsible for fostering a culture of excellence, consistency, and inclusion, while supporting the growth of student-athletes both in and out of the water.
The Head Coach oversees the design, implementation, and alignment of the club’s training and competitive programming across all sites and levels. The role includes supervision and development of coaching staff, coordination of program operations, and partnership with school leadership to ensure alignment between club and school-based aquatics.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead and uphold the mission, philosophy, and vision of the Blazing Barracudas Swim Club
Design and implement a cohesive training model that supports athlete development from beginner through advanced levels
Develop, communicate, and enforce team policies, training structures, and competition expectations
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate coaching staff in collaboration with aquatics leadership
Coordinate programming across all sites to ensure consistency in instruction and athlete experience
Oversee meet planning, entries, and on-deck coaching responsibilities
Manage roster development, attendance tracking, and athlete performance monitoring
Lead communication with families and support parent engagement
Ensure full compliance with USA Swimming, Safe Sport, MAAPP, and all governing body requirements
Model professionalism, integrity, and positive leadership for athletes and staff
Collaborate with school and club leadership to support long-term program growth and alignment
Bachelor’s degree required
Demonstrated experience coaching competitive swimming across multiple age groups and ability levels
Strong knowledge of training methodologies, athlete development, and competitive swim structures
Experience managing or leading a team of coaches preferred
Prior experience as a competitive swimmer at the club or collegiate level preferred
Ability to build a positive, disciplined, and developmentally appropriate team culture
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Commitment to working within a mission-driven, independent school environment
Current USA Swimming coaching certifications (or ability to obtain)
CPR/AED and First Aid certification
Completion of all required USA Swimming safety, Safe Sport, and compliance training
Background check and adherence to all governing body regulations
This is a year-round position with a non-traditional schedule aligned to the club’s seasonal rhythms. Typical short-course season hours include weekday afternoons and evenings, Saturday mornings, and meet coverage as required. Additional administrative responsibilities are completed during designated office hours. Long-course season scheduling varies based on site availability and program needs.
