Position Title: Practice Group Coach

Position Overview:
The Practice Group Coach supports the Head Coach in leading the NLU swim program for athletes aged 6–18, assisting with staff management, athlete development, and operational responsibilities. This role carries the key responsibility of managing meet entries for both hosted and visiting swim meets and requires travel to out-of-town competitions.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Athlete Development:
• Assist in developing and implementing age-appropriate training programs.
• Coach multiple swim groups, providing constructive feedback and monitoring swimmer progress.
• Support preparation for meets, ensuring swimmers are ready both physically and mentally.
• Promote a positive team culture, sportsmanship, and engagement.
Meet Management & Travel:
• Responsible for entering swimmers in all hosted and visiting meets.
• Coordinate with meet directors, assistant coaches, and parents to ensure accurate registration and compliance with USA Swimming rules.
• Provide meet schedules and information to parents and staff.
• Track meet results, update swimmer records, and report outcomes to Head Coach and Board.
• Participate in travel for out-of-town meets as requested by the Head Coach, ensuring proper supervision of swimmers and staff, managing logistics, and facilitating a positive competitive experience.
Staff Support & Management:
• Assist Head Coach in supervising and mentoring assistant coaches.
• Help organize staffing for practices, meets, and special events.
• Ensure coaching staff compliance with USA Swimming certifications, policies, and club standards.
Program & Administrative Support:
• Assist with operational procedures, budgeting, and program planning as directed by the Head Coach.
• Support administrative duties including practice schedules, swimmer assessments, and communications.
• Participate in camps, clinics, and special events as needed.
Parent & Community Engagement:
• Maintain effective communication with parents regarding practice schedules, meet entries, and swimmer progress.
• Respond to parent inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Support community outreach efforts and program promotion.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Current USA Swimming Coach Member in good standing.
• 2–5 years of competitive swim coaching experience, preferably with age group athletes.
• Ability to support and mentor coaching staff.
• Strong technical knowledge of competitive strokes, training methods, and athlete development.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with Hy-Tek, TeamUnify, SportsEngine preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification preferred.
Expectations & Performance:
• Report to Head Coach and Board on meet entries, swimmer progress, and operational tasks.
• Ensure smooth implementation of training programs and meet operations.
• Assist in staff scheduling, mentoring, and professional development.
• Serve as a role model for athletes and staff; uphold USA Swimming and club policies.
• Effectively manage time spent traveling for out-of-town meets while maintaining supervision and ensuring swimmer safety.

Who: Ages 6-18 that already have two legal strokes and a general understanding of the remaining two.
What: A competitive swim team with several meets offered in and out of town throughout two seasons. Short course (yards) in the fall/winter and long course (meters) in the summer.
When: Depending on the group, practices are held 3-6 times a week.
Where: Our main pool is at the Park Hill Aquatic Center.
