POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the­­­­­­­­­­­ Age Group Director and the Senior Director of Competitive Swimming, the YOTA Age Group Site Coach is responsible for the leadership and direction of the YMCA’s Competitive Swimming program at the Taylor Family YMCA site. They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Leadership & Vision

·         Provide vision, leadership, and daytoday management for a valuesdriven competitive swim program serving multiple agegroup levels.

·         Ensure highquality coaching, athlete development, and program consistency across all training groups.

·         Promote YMCA aquatics and wellness programs as a community ambassador.

 

Staffing, Coaching & Team Development

·         Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop diverse staff and volunteer teams.

·         Provide leadership and coaching support to parttime staff to ensure strong program delivery.

·         Model YMCA leadership behaviors and support staff growth through ongoing feedback and development.

 

Communication & Relationship Building

·         Maintain open, clear, and consistent communication with athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers, and branch staff.

·         Build positive relationships and collaborate with community organizations to strengthen program impact.

·         Uphold YMCA, ASCA, and USA Swimming Codes of Ethics in all interactions.

 

Training & Practice Management

·         Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices aligned with program goals, training plans, and YMCA guidelines.

·         Maintain accurate attendance, skill assessments, and training documentation.

·         Work with the Senior Director of Competitive Swimming to establish and achieve annual program goals.

 

Meet Management & Administrative Responsibilities

·         Prepare and submit all required information for swim meets and attend meets as assigned.

·         Support budget monitoring and adhere to YMCA budget philosophy.

·         Assist with Annual Campaign efforts by recruiting volunteers and supporting team events.

 

Additional Responsibilities

·         Maintain strong communication with all YOTA and YMCA Aquatics staff.

·         Completion of all required annual trainings related to safety, compliance, and child protection as assigned.

·         Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Degree in related field preferred and 1+ year of related experience.

·         ASCA level 3 swimming coach certifications preferred.

·         Passion for building community and fostering meaningful relationships through programs and services.

·         Experience supporting program delivery and staff development in a team-based environment.

·         Ability to coordinate staff, programs, and schedules effectively in a dynamic setting.

·         Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and public-facing interactions.

·         Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and strong organizational and time-management skills.

·         Builds inclusive, mission-driven relationships with youth, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.

·         Maintain necessary certifications including CPR, First Aid, Coaches Safety Training and Lifeguard training.  

·         Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred, but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

·         Primarily office and program settings with frequent interaction in gyms, classrooms, and outdoor spaces

·         Moderate noise levels; may be louder during youth or community activities

·         Regular use of computer, phone, and other office technology

·         Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting or moving up to 40 lbs

·         Some work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions

·         Flexible schedule required — may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional travel between branches or sites

·         Must be able to provide valid identification for employment eligibility verification.

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.

·         A clean driving record is required to meet YMCA insurance standards.

·         Travel between branch and/or site locations, and to off-site meetings and events is required.

·         Must reside in the YMCA of the Triangle service area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and surrounding areas).
