The Head Aquatics Coach for the beautiful City of Charleston, SC, (Southern Marlins Racing Team) is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of competitive swim programming and related recreational aquatics instruction. This position provides leadership in athlete development, staff training, program planning, and team operations while ensuring a safe, structured, and positive environment for participants. The Head Aquatics Coach develops training plans, manages team operations, coordinates competitions, and supports recreational aquatics programming as needed.
Example of Duties:
- Coaches competitive year-round swim program with measurable goals and objectives.
- Develops and implements overall training program to prepare athletes for competition.
- Establishes competitive training schedules for team members.
- Monitors individual athletes’ progression on skills and techniques.
- Provides technical instruction and structured skill development.
- Trains and supervises assistant coaches and instructional staff.
- Develops meet schedule for all team levels, including entries, travel, and logistics.
- Tracks swimmer performance, results, and progression.
- Develops and presents information packet for parents and athletes.
- Communicates program expectations, policies, and procedures to families.
- Assists with recreational swim lessons and evaluates participants for team placement.
- Coordinates scheduling with Aquatics and Recreation staff.
- Ensures all safety protocols are followed.
- Maintains aquatics equipment and recommends purchases and repairs.
- Maintains program records, reports, and participation data.
- Works with Recreation Department staff and associated booster groups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- USA Swimming Coach Certification (or ability to obtain within specified timeframe)
- Valid driver’s license.
- CPR certification.
- First Aid certification.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous competitive swim coaching experience
- Experience supervising staff
- Knowledge of RecTrac or similar recreation management software
- Experience coordinating swim meets or competitive programs
Other Necessary Requirements:
- This position may require evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel for competitions and events.
