As a full-time Senior or Age Group Coach, you will join a dynamic family of coaches for the day-to-day development of athletes within your assigned training groups, partner with the Head Coach and Coach Directors in implementation of the season plan, and participate in long-term planning. You will help set the tone for excellence across your site. This is a leadership role for an experienced coach who is ready to build on Machine's culture, drive performance, and invest deeply in the athletes in their practices.
Lead and/or collaborate on all levels of swimming within the groups assigned to you, taking ownership of athlete progression and seasonal outcomes.
Design practice that implements the training plans for the group(s) in close collaboration with the Team Head Coach, and implements clear progressions consistent with the established structure of Machine Aquatics.
Monitor each swimmer’s advancement through the program and create meaningful, measurable season goals for the group.
Build a strong group culture through community service, team outings, and other functions that connect athletes to one another and to Machine Aquatics.
Serve as Head or Assistant Group Coach, overseeing the infrastructure of every practice and the experience of every athlete in the water.
Determine and approve swimmers' events at competitions, attending the assigned meet when conflicts arise to support the entire Machine team.
Partner with the site coaching staff to implement the Machine Aquatics dryland program.
Communicate any changes to practice schedule, swim meets, or Machine activities promptly to the Site Head Coach and the Machine offices.
Assist in meet operations for competitions hosted by Machine Aquatics.
Attend travel meets as needed, with all arrangements coordinated through Machine offices and aligned with the season plan set by Machine Aquatics Coach Directors and Head Coach.
Attend monthly site coaching meetings, and ensure your staff’s attendance at the Machine monthly staff meeting (second Tuesday of each month, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM).
Be present in the Machine offices on Tuesdays from 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM, as required of all full-time staff.
This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits including medical, 401K, company phone and annual vacation.
In a typical week, you can expect:
On-deck practice coaching according to your assigned group schedule.
Eight to twelve hours of administrative work per week.
An average of twelve to fifteen hours per month at competitive meets.
Required presence at Tuesday office hours and monthly staff meetings; absences must be approved by Senior Management in advance.
An experienced competitive swim coach with a strong track record of athlete development across age groups and ability levels.
A confident leader who can run a group, mentor assistant coaches, and represent Machine Aquatics with professionalism on deck and in the community.
A thoughtful planner who designs training with intention and implementation of a season plan, and can adapt quickly when athletes or conditions demand it.
A clear communicator who keeps athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and the Machine offices well-informed.
Aligned with our commitment to compassionate coaching and the long-term well-being of every swimmer in the program.
Significant experience coaching at a USA Swimming club or comparable competitive program.
Current USA Swimming coach membership in good standing, including all required certifications (Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR/AED, First Aid, Concussion Protocol Training, Athlete Protection Training, and background screening).
Demonstrated ability to design seasonal training plans, lead practices on deck, and guide athletes through measurable progression.
Ability to attend travel meets and work a schedule that includes early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and select weekends.
ASCA certification, college-level competitive swimming background, and prior experience in a senior or head-group coaching role are strongly preferred.
