Age Group Coach

South Bay Aquatics (SBA) – San Diego, CA

South Bay Aquatics (SBA) is a USA Swimming-affiliated, 501(c)(3) competitive swim team serving youth athletes throughout the South Bay San Diego community. SBA is committed to providing a positive, challenging, and team-oriented environment where swimmers can develop their skills, confidence, and competitive abilities—from developmental swimmers to athletes pursuing championship-level competition.

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and athlete-centered Age Group Coach to join our growing coaching staff.

The ideal candidate is energetic, dependable, organized, and professional, with a genuine passion for developing young swimmers and building strong relationships with athletes and families.

The Age Group Coach will lead assigned age-group training groups and work closely with the Head Coach and coaching staff to provide consistency in SBA's technical, developmental, and competitive philosophy. The position includes daily on-deck coaching, athlete development, meet participation, team activities, and other responsibilities that support the overall success of the program.

Qualifications

• Previous competitive swimming and/or coaching experience at the club or collegiate level
• Current USA Swimming coach membership and required certifications, or the ability to obtain them upon hiring
• Strong understanding of competitive swimming technique and athlete development
• Knowledge of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, underwater skills, and race strategy
• Genuine passion for coaching and working with youth swimmers of varying ages and abilities
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow USA Swimming Safe Sport requirements
• Must be reliable, punctual, professional, and able to work effectively as part of a coaching team

Position Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct structured, age-appropriate practices
• Provide active, hands-on deck coaching and technical instruction
• Establish individual goals and monitor swimmer progress
• Maintain a positive, respectful, challenging, and encouraging training environment
• Communicate effectively with swimmers and families regarding development, goals, attendance, meets, and team expectations
• Attend coaches' meetings and participate in team planning and athlete evaluations
• Follow all SBA policies, USA Swimming rules, Safe Sport requirements, and professional coaching standards

Compensation

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 10–15 hours per week.

South Bay Aquatics offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Additional opportunities may be available through team meets, clinics, camps, and other SBA programs.
